Book Description
"The road out to the Bromfman farm in late August is no different from thousands of other roads to grain farms in Kansas-hard-baked dirt dusted with a fine powder of yellow clay that shifts almost imperceptibly with the slightest movement of the air. Randy Larsen was on his way to the farm in response to a call saying someone had died out there." The suspenseful story of a poor farming family in which each generation holds the next in its deadly, predictable grip until murderous opposition explodes. The characters of The Parts Left Out are all beautifully drawn and sympathetic in their own way, are determined to escape their fate, and some seem close to doing so. Thomas Ogden's debut novel has received international recognition and Best Seller Ranking: Number Four on the Israeli Best Seller List for the year 2017--Ha'Aretz Newspaper ("The New York Times of Israel") Israel's Critics' Choice 2017 Top 10 works of fiction. 'A beautiful and touching novel.' - Maariv, Tel Aviv 'Without any harshness, and with a steady voice, Ogden writes the story of trauma, transmitted from one generation to the next, until it is interrupted, violently.' - Ha'aretz, Tel Aviv 'Thomas Ogden, who is perhaps the most renowned psychoanalyst writing today, demonstrates his prowess as a writer of fiction in his stunning debut novel, The Parts Left Out. His keen eye for the complexity of human relationships and human frailties makes the characters so real and compelling that they seem to step out of the page. Ogden's novel confirms that the truest concepts developed in psychoanalysis have already appeared in the insight of the artist. This story takes hold of the reader in its opening paragraphs and does not let go until its heart-wrenching ending has been told. I found this book almost impossible to put down.'- Antonino Ferro, M.D., President of the Italian Psychoanalytic Association 'Ogden writes movingly and convincingly about everyday life, at the same time that he writes tragedy. . . The dialogue rings true psychologically, at the same time that it is unnerving . . . I do not find this a conventional novel in the sense of offering a smooth or consistent narrative, much less a single point of view. Rather it is jumpy, unsettling . . . but this is also, I believe, its strength.'- Madelon Sprengnether, Regents Professor of English, University of Minnesota, International Journal of Psychoanalysis 'Not only is Thomas Ogden the most creative psychoanalytic author writing today, but in this novel he shows himself to be a wonderful teller of tales. The Parts Left Out is an auspicious achievement. As a work of fiction it succeeds in accomplishing the most difficult of feats: to be both a spellbinder and an in-depth exploration of human traits that bring on unspeakable tragedy. Tom Ogden knows the human mind as few do. In The Parts Left Out he demonstrates his remarkable understanding not only of the mind, but of the human heart as well.' - Theodore Jacobs, MD, Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association

Book Description
Thomas Ogden is internationally known as one of today's leading psychoanalytic thinkers. His many books and articles are admired as much for the quality of his writing as for the originality of his ideas. In The Parts Left Out, his first novel, Ogden brings to life in fiction what cannot be conveyed in an analytic essay. The novel is a suspenseful story of loyalty and cowardice, of love and human frailty, of destruction at the hand of others and destruction at one's own hand. The characters-members of a poor wheat-farming family-are determined to escape their fate, each in their own way, and some seem close to doing so.

Book Description
Tara Reade shares the aftermath of the re-victimization of speaking out about her sexual assault, with then-Senator Joe Biden in 1993, where the shaming, attacks, and threats instigated by the media sent her into a personal tailspin. Tara-rized viciously by cyber bullies, receiving death threats and fearing for her life and those of her family, Tara tells how living with no regret and coming forward was right for her conscience. The moment that defines Tara will not confine her, but instead move her forward by reclaiming her identity. Tara pulls together the pieces of her life experiences to forge a path of hope so that other survivors may have dignity coming forward. This memoir reflects that Tara knew the value of speaking truth to power even in the most difficult of circumstances.

Left Out PDF Author: Kimberley Reynolds
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0198755597
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
Left Out presents an alternative and corrective history of writing for children in the first half of the twentieth century. Between 1910 and 1949 a number of British publishers, writers, and illustrators included children's literature in their efforts to make Britain a progressive, egalitarian, and modern society. Some came from privileged backgrounds, others from the poorest parts of the poorest cities in the land; some belonged to the metropolitan intelligentsia or bohemia, others were working-class autodidacts, but all sought to use writing for children and young people to create activists, visionaries, and leaders among the rising generation.Together, they produced a significant number of both politically and aesthetically radical publications for children and young people. This "radical children's literature" was designed to ignite and underpin the work of making a new Britain for a new kind of Briton. While there are many dedicated studies of children's literature and childrens' writers working in other periods, the years 1910-1949 have previously received little critical attention. In this study, Kimberley Reynolds shows that the accepted characterization of interwar children's literature as retreatist, anti-modernist, and apolitical is too sweeping and that the relationship between children's literature and modernism, left-wing politics, and progressive education has been neglected.

Kennedy's death. Through hundreds of interviews, abundant travel and firsthand observation, and with unique access to the proceedings of the Warren Commission, Manchester conducted an exhaustive historical investigation, accumulating forty-five volumes of documents, exhibits, and transcribed tapes. The Assembler of Parts

The Assembler of Parts PDF Author: Raoul Wientzen
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1628725575
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
A dual Kirkus Best Fiction and Best Debut Fiction selection, this stunning novel is an emotional fable about love, forgiveness, and what most makes us human. At the outset of this extraordinary first novel, eight-year-old Jess finds herself in heaven reviewing her short life. She is guided in this by a being she calls the Assembler of Parts, and her task seems to be to grasp her life’s meaning. From the moment of her birth, it was obvious that Jess is unlike other children, for she suffers from a syndrome of birth defects that leaves her flawed. But by her very imperfections, she has a unique ability to draw love from—and heal—those around her, from the parents who come together over her to the grandmother whose guilt she assuages, to the family friend she helps reconcile with an angry past. Yet, it is only when she comes to her sudden death—for which her parents are suspected of neglect, unleashing a chain of events beyond her healing—that her sense of her life truly begin to crystallize. And only then does the Assembler’s purpose become clear. With prose that is rich in emotion and eloquence and that distills poetry from the language of medicine and the words for ordinary things, Raoul Wientzen has delivered a novel of rare beauty that speaks to subjects as profound as faith, what makes us human, and the value of a life. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction—novels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
