Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio - Love In Japan, Korea & Beyond
Author: Jennifer Jean Miller
Publisher: J.J. Avenue Productions
ISBN: 0991429168
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 178
Book Description
The story of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio is a timeless tale. Both of these legends had extraordinary careers in their individual fields, as well as remarkable existences. This book chronicles each of their lives, from the days before they met, until that magical night in 1952 when their paths finally crossed. Their lives would never be the same after that. Though their marriage lasted for nine months, their love endured beyond those years and Joe’s heart yearned for no one else, even at his deathbed thirty-seven years after her untimely passing. This account shares of their love and focuses on their marriage in 1954, and their trip to Japan and her trip to Korea, during the nearly one month time span that the couple was in the Far East together. A segment of the author’s collection of rare and unpublished photographs of both stars are featured within this Google edition, some never before seen since they were taken approximately sixty years ago in Japan and Korea. Due to file size constraints with file delivery via Google that inhibits image quality, the print version of the book has the expanded selection of photos from the author's collection, as well as memorabilia from both of the stars. This book weaves in elements about baseball, entertainment, the military, the tragedies of stardom, and above all, the love Marilyn and Joe shared. The story told here unveils other characters in the casts of both of their lives, including interviews with family members of Marilyn Monroe, headed by Marilyn’s second cousin, Jason Edward Kennedy. This book begins to also debunk the myths and propaganda about the life and death of Marilyn Monroe. Additionally, controversy within Joe’s final days is also explored. Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio – Love In Japan, Korea & Beyond, is the first book in the series endorsed by MarilynMonroeFamily.com, the website run by the relatives of William Marion Hogan, Marilyn Monroe’s great-uncle.

The Electronic Church in the Digital Age
Author: Mark Ward Sr.
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN: 1440829918
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 668
Book Description
This two-volume set investigates the evangelical presence in America as experienced through digital media, examining current evangelical ideologies regarding education, politics, family, and government. Evangelical broadcasting has greatly expanded its footprint in the digital age. This informative text acquaints readers with how the electronic church of today spreads its message through Internet podcasts, social networking, religious radio programs, and televised sermons; how mass media forms the institution's modern identity; and what the future of the industry holds as mobile church apps, Christian-based video games, and online worship become the norm. The work—split into two volumes—reveals the ways that the Christian broadcast community affects evangelical traditions and influences American society in general. Volume 1 explores how electronic media shapes today's Christian subculture, while the second volume describes how the electronic church impacts the wider American culture, analyzing what key figures in evangelical mass media are saying about today's religious, political, economic, and social issues. The set concludes by addressing criticism about religious media and the prospects of American public discourse to accomodate both secular and religious voices.

American Legion Baseball
Author: William E. Akin
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 147664389X
Category : Sports & Recreation
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
In the wake of the 1919 White Sox scandal and the suspension for life of eight players, baseball saw a precipitous decline in popularity, especially among America's youth. To combat this, a group of World War I veterans who were members of the newly formed American Legion created an organization to promote teenage interest in baseball. Led by John L. Griffith, who became the first commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, the Legion undertook the revival of baseball. In the 1920s and through the Great Depression and World War II, Legion baseball grew steadily. By 1950 it had become the principal training ground for major league players, boasting at its peak more than 16,000 teams across the country. Tracing the long history of this uniquely American institution, this work details each year's American Legion World Series and the ups and downs of participation over nearly a century.

INNOVATION AND CHANGE IN THE HUMAN SERVICES
Author: Nicholas D. Richie
Publisher: Charles C Thomas Publisher
ISBN: 0398083827
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 323
Book Description
This second edition of Innovation and Change in the Human Services considerably updates and expands the previous volume. An overview of the development of human services over the course of the twentieth century culminates in an evolutionary model which illustrates how human services generally progress from an initial “individual-problem” stage to one of considerable governmental involvement and media attention. Eight specific human services are discussed in detail: hospices for those with life-limiting illness; continuing care retirement communities; services for those with HIV/AIDS; domestic assault services; day care for children; services for the homeless; lifelong occupational counseling; and services for Alzheimer’s patients. A full chapter is devoted to some of the major events of the last decade of the twentieth century: the Clinton Health Care Plan; the Welfare Reforms of 1996; and the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. The chapter on human services education compares degree programs in human services and social work, and suggests a functional approach which would allow the human services worker to move easily from one setting to another, due to having mastered a common core curriculum with “universal” applicability. The last chapter deals with human services issues of considerable importance at the start of the twenty-first century, including: the corporatization of human services; the privatization of human services; Social Security reform; and healthcare reform. This material is expected to be of use not only to educators and students in the human services, but also to policy analysts and health services administrators/practitioners who face everyday the challenge of refining/adapting the programs they administer, study and support
