Book Description
Raised in county Donegal, Ireland, Maire began her musical career with family band Clannad. Along with sister Enya, and the other members of Clannad, Maire has always fiercely guarded her privacy. Yet in recent years - largely due to a new self confidence and discovery of Christian faith - Maire has begun to share a testimony that has inspired thousands of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. We follow her life - from idyllic innocent childhood in county Donegal, through the highs and lows of success in the public eye, the personal torment of successive relationship breakdown, and the consequences of promiscuity and drug and alcohol indulgence. Ultimately this is a story of a woman whose dream became a nightmare, and yet throughout the trauma a still small voice continued to whisper her name. In seeking out that voice she finally found her love and security she had craved all her life.

Overwhelmed by electronic gadgets? Buried under an avalanche of e-mails? Juggling too many tasks and responsibilities? Desperately in need of a deep breath and a time-out? For all of us who answer yes to any of these questions, help is on the way. Getting to the heart of our hassled and over-scheduled existence, Christine Louise Hohlbaum cheerfully investigates 101 ways to increase our quality of life and productivity by reevaluating how we perceive and use time. Everyone has their own personal bank account of time, and while we cannot control time itself, we can manage the activities with which we fill the time we have available to us. The Power of Slow gives readers practical, concise directions to change the relationship they have with time and debunks the myths of multitasking, speed, and urgency as the only ways to efficiency. Tips include: · When working on a project on your computer, close all the windows, with the exception of the one you need to do your job. · Learn to say no in a polite and constructive way to favors, invitations, and requests. · Manage your own expectations, as well as those of others, by clearly stating what is possible in the time frame given. · Declare gadget-free zones (both geographical and temporal) to really enjoy your leisure time. · Know when your plate is full. · Make commitments to difficult tasks in five-minute increments and gradually increase the increments. · Save your most favorite or the easiest tasks for last to avoid procrastination. The Power of Slow will help readers identify areas in need of improvement and show them how to become more efficient and less frazzled at work and at home---and live a better, more balanced life.

Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781539838630

Languages : en
Pages : 276
Book Description
When Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1975, many a rock n' roll fan was left befuddled. Why would one of rock's top guitarists leave one of the world's most popular bands? Regardless of the reason, listeners would ultimately be thankful, as Blackmore soon launched Rainbow - a band that rocked just as ferociously as Purple, whose music has proven to be timeless and incredibly influential on subsequent heavy metal bands. And along the way, Blackmore proved to be extremely adept at spotting largely-unknown talent, and introducing them to the world - including vocalists Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, and Joe Lynn Turner. However, with Blackmore as the group's leader, band members came and went on a regular basis - preventing the band from possibly reaching their full potential. 'The Other Side of Rainbow' features nearly 30 all-new interviews conducted exclusively for this book, including former band members, those who worked closely with the band, were friends, or admirers of their music.

Dorothy

Category : Gale, Dorothy (Fictitious character)

Book Description
The day after seeing The Wizard of Oz in a movie theater, I went out and bought a copy of the book. I devoured it in one sitting, and was convinced that as wonderful as the movie was, the book was better still. I identified with Dorothy because both of us were orphans. She was sent out to Kansas to live with Em and Henry, and I was adopted by a couple from Brooklyn. And while I was always curious about who my birth parents were, I didn't do anything about it until I was married with three children. That's when I jumped on the yellow brick road and embarked on a search for my birth parents. (My story was published in the book Missing Links - The True Story of an Adoptee's Search for his Birth parents.) I mentioned Dorothy in my book, and subsequently used her journey in Oz as an analogy for the adoptee in search of his/her birth parents when I was invited to speak to adoption groups. "What," I often wondered, "ever happened to Dorothy when she grew up? And how did she get to Kansas in the first place?" I answered my own question in a book. Two books, for that matter: Dorothy - Looking for a Rainbow, a novel for young adults written in the third person covering Dorothy's life from shortly before her birth to the day she leaves her Kansas farm and goes out to find her own yellow brick road. And the other book, Dorothy - This Side of the Rainbow, written in the first person as a memoir covering Dorothy's entire life. Both books attempt to bring the character of Dorothy to life. Both books try to create a strong female character, one who can become a role model for, not only young women, but young men as well. The Dorothy that I created doesn't live in Oz. She lives in the real world during a real time in American History. (My Dorothy was born in 1878.) I aimed for historical accuracy. There are many actual events and real people in both of the Dorothy stories because I wanted Dorothy to be a part of "our" history. On one level my Dorothy stories are historical adventure stories in the tradition of Little House on the Prairie, Little Women, and Sarah, Plain and Tall. But the two books exist on a number of different levels, too. Both are personal search stories that unite actualization and spirituality. Both offer a parallel between the events in Oz and their possible origin in the real world. Both offer readers a chance to rekindle their own childhood and rediscover cherished memories of what it was like to dream.
