The Organisation and Curricula of Schools (Classic Reprint)

The Organisation and Curricula of Schools (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: W. G. Sleight

ISBN: 9781330631324

Book Description
Excerpt from The Organisation and Curricula of Schools The Modern Educator's Library has been designed to give considered expositions of the best theory and practice in English education of to-day. It is planned to cover the principal problems of educational theory in general, of curriculum and organisation, of some unexhausted aspects of the history of education, and of special branches of applied education. The Editor and his colleagues have had in view the needs of young teachers and of those training to be teachers, but since the school and the schoolmaster are not the sole factors in the educative process, it is hoped that educators in general (and which of us is not in some sense or other an educator?) as well as the professional schoolmaster may find in the series some help in understanding precept and practice in education of to-day and to-morrow. For we have borne in mind not only what is but what ought to be. To exhibit the educator's work as a vocation requiring the best possible preparation is the spirit in which these volumes have been written. No artificial uniformity has been sought or imposed, and while the Editor is responsible for the series in general, the responsibility for the opinions expressed in each volume rests solely with its author. A Fortnight in London Schools (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: D. Walter Potts

Book Description
Excerpt from A Fortnight in London Schools The following detailed report of the British School System is intended to give to the reader a correct impression of the status of elementary educational facilities in England to-day. The author had but one object in view in the effort expended in gathering the material for this little volume: That our people might become thoroughly conversant with educational conditions in England. No effort has been made to emphasize defects, nor to eulogize strong points in the school system. A fair and impartial report was in the mind of the visitor at all times. Copies of text books, pamphlets, rules and regulations, syllabi, etc., may be inspected at the office of the Superintendent of Schools. That the Board of Education may see some results among us, from a critical study of this report, is the hope of all interested in educational progress. The Progress of Education in England PDF Author: J. E. G. De Montmorency
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781528067652
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Excerpt from The Progress of Education in England: A Sketch of the Development of English, Educational Organization From Early, Times to the Year 1904 In order to give a continuous narrative it has been felt to be desirable to omit as a rule footnote authorities for the facts set forth, though every effort has been made to secure accuracy. The authorities for many of the facts contained in that part of the book which deals with the period before 1833 will be found in the present writer's volume, State Intervention in English Education, published by the Cambridge University Press in 1902, while subsequent facts are almost without exception drawn from the Statutes of the Realm, Blue Books, and Hansard. Some new facts and results have been added to the earlier period, such as the hitherto little noticed letter of Pope Alexander III., and a fuller statement of the relationship of education and the Lollard movement. Gratitude is due to Mr. W. A. Casson and Mr. W. G. Howell for their useful sugges tions given after perusing the proof sheets. Book Description
Excerpt from The Education of the Poor in England and Europe Several of the Swiss manufacturers assured me last autumn, that if we took off our protective duties, their trade would be mined, as they had the greatest difficulty in competing with us even at the present prices. The Swiss have no coal, no iron, no sea-ports, the wages of labour are very high, and their cotton is brought to them by a long and slow over-land journey, or by boats propelled against the strong and rapid current of the Rhine. Yet, notwithstanding the manifest disadvantages of their situa tion, they have hitherto had a very good trade with Italy and the Levant, owing entirely, as they assured me, to the prices of our manufactured articles having been raised by unnatural legislation.
