Evans V. Washingtonia State University

Evans V. Washingtonia State University PDF Author: Elizabeth L. Lippy
Publisher: Aspen Publishing
ISBN: 1601568010
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 92

Book Description
They sure don’t make schoolyard bullies the way they used to. Just ask Riley Evans, the college coed in Evans v. Nita State University who became the target of Facebook attacks while running for “president” in a mock election class at Nita State University. The simulated campaign took an ugly personal turn when Evans’s opponent used social media to attack Evans the college student rather than Evans the mock candidate, and posted inflammatory allegations that Evans was a cheat, a bigot, and a boozer. Evans filed a civil lawsuit alleging that the university failed to provide a safe learning environment and did not prevent hostile cyberbullying that substantially interfered with Evans’s education. This case file, formerly titled Evans v. Washingtonia State University, refines the student’s advocacy and examination skills through this full trial—which includes depositions and electronic evidence in the form of emails, text messages, a video clip, and social media posts—and focuses on storytelling as it relates to presenting factual information to judges and juries. The second edition presents new additions to the depositions, updated jury instructions, a reorganized format, and a fresheningup to the narrative that makes note of the current political atmosphere.

Book Description
Nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, Weber State University has been serving the Greater Weber and Davis County communities for over 125 years. On January 7, 1889, Weber Stake Academy opened its doors for the first time to approximately 100 students. The academy continued to grow and develop through five name changes and several relocations. Throughout this time, the institution survived many financial and political struggles. Today, the university has increased in size to accommodate over 26,000 students. This pictorial history was put together in commemoration of Weber's 125th anniversary, and it provides a compelling look into the struggles and ultimate survival of a historic academic institution.

A History of Wayne State University in Photographs

A History of Wayne State University in Photographs PDF Author: Evelyn Aschenbrenner
Publisher: Wayne State University Press
ISBN: 0814345956
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 611

Book Description
Celebrating the growth of a premier university in the heart of Detroit. Wayne State University traces its earliest roots to the Civil War era and Detroit's Harper Hospital, where its Medical College was founded in 1868. In 1917, a junior college was formed in the building now called Old Main and along with four other schools—education, engineering, pharmacy, and a graduate school—these units would come to be called Wayne State University (WSU). The second edition of A History of Wayne State University in Photographstraces the evolution of those early schools into a modern research university with an extensive urban campus. Following the first edition, author Evelyn Aschenbrenner uses historical photos and archival material to give readers a complete visual guide to Wayne State University's development, including an update of the last ten years—just in time for WSU's 150th anniversary. She charts official milestones of the university, including the organization of colleges into a university in the 1930s, the drive for state support in the 1950s, and the new buildings constructed as academic programs expanded. Aschenbrenner also surveys campus life, including disciplinary and curricular development, student life, and the university's relations with its surrounding neighborhood, which were strained by various urban renewal programs. The second edition retains the thoughtful introduction by Charles K. Hyde and original foreword by Bill McGraw, who was a student at WSU in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In a new foreword, President M. Roy Wilson argues that anniversaries like our sesquicentennial are special because "they give us something that is hard to get during the normal work week: perspective." The second edition of A History of Wayne State University in Photographs compiles rare and intriguing images that will be make a perfect keepsake for current and former students, faculty and staff, and anyone interested in Detroit history.
