Separation Process Engineering

Separation Process Engineering PDF Author: Phillip C. Wankat
Publisher: Prentice Hall
ISBN: 0131382276
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 992

Book Description
The Definitive, Fully Updated Guide to Separation Process Engineering-Now with a Thorough Introduction to Mass Transfer Analysis Separation Process Engineering, Third Edition, is the most comprehensive, accessible guide available on modern separation processes and the fundamentals of mass transfer. Phillip C. Wankat teaches each key concept through detailed, realistic examples using real data-including up-to-date simulation practice and new spreadsheet-based exercises. Wankat thoroughly covers each of today's leading approaches, including flash, column, and batch distillation; exact calculations and shortcut methods for multicomponent distillation; staged and packed column design; absorption; stripping; and more. In this edition, he also presents the latest design methods for liquid-liquid extraction. This edition contains the most detailed coverage available of membrane separations and of sorption separations (adsorption, chromatography, and ion exchange). Updated with new techniques and references throughout, Separation Process Engineering, Third Edition, also contains more than 300 new homework problems, each tested in the author's Purdue University classes. Coverage includes Modular, up-to-date process simulation examples and homework problems, based on Aspen Plus and easily adaptable to any simulator Extensive new coverage of mass transfer and diffusion, including both Fickian and Maxwell-Stefan approaches Detailed discussions of liquid-liquid extraction, including McCabe-Thiele, triangle and computer simulation analyses; mixer-settler design; Karr columns; and related mass transfer analyses Thorough introductions to adsorption, chromatography, and ion exchange-designed to prepare students for advanced work in these areas Complete coverage of membrane separations, including gas permeation, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, pervaporation, and key applications A full chapter on economics and energy conservation in distillation Excel spreadsheets offering additional practice with problems in distillation, diffusion, mass transfer, and membrane separation

Electrostatic Accelerators

Electrostatic Accelerators PDF Author: Ragnar Hellborg
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540239833
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 644

Book Description
Electrostatic accelerators are an important and widespread subgroup within the broad spectrum of modern, large particle acceleration devices. They are specifically designed for applications that require high-quality ion beams in terms of energy stability and emittance at comparatively low energies (a few MeV). Their ability to accelerate virtually any kind of ion over a continuously tunable range of energies makes them a highly versatile tool for investigations in many research fields including, but not limited to, atomic and nuclear spectroscopy, heavy ion reactions, accelerator mass spectroscopy as well as ion-beam analysis and modification. The book is divided into three parts. The first part concisely introduces the field of accelerator technology and techniques that emphasize their major modern applications. The second part treats the electrostatic accelerator per se: its construction and operational principles as well as its maintenance. The third part covers all relevant applications in which electrostatic accelerators are the preferred tool for accelerator-based investigations. Since some topics are common to all types of accelerators, Electrostatic Accelerators will also be of value for those more familiar with other types of accelerators.

Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy

Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy PDF Author: A. Barnes
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400985401
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 602

Book Description
The matrix isolation (MI) method has now been used for nearly thirty years. During this period it has been actively developed and the range of problems tackled greatly extended. Originally it was used for studies of transient species involv ing vibrational, electronic and ESR spectroscopy. Nowadays the study of transient species forms a comparatively small part of HI work since it has been amply demonstrated that very fruitful information can be obtained of the structure and interactions of stable molecules and their aggregates. In addition to the s~ectroscopic methods mentioned above the MI technique is nowadays a standard method in research based on vibrational relaxation, luminescence, Mossbauer, magnetic circular dichroism, pulsed NMR and photoelectron spectroscopy. The matrix isolation technique affords considerable advantages over more conventional methods in most applications of spectroscopy. Areas where the technique has been widely applied, or shows great potential, include: metal atom chemistry, and its relation to surface chemistry, high temperature inorganic species, transition metal complexes, interstellar species, free radicals and unstable molecules, conformational studies, molecular com plexes, and intermolecular forces.

The Discovery and Characterization of Transposable Elements

The Discovery and Characterization of Transposable Elements PDF Author: Barbara McClintock
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 9780824013912
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 635

Book Description
The introduction was written by Barbara McClintock to show how the concept of transposable elements evolved, and to comment on subsequent investigations of these elements. The papers in this volume were selected because of their relevance to this topic. For the discovery of "Mobile genetic elements" she received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1983.
