Led Into Mystery

Led Into Mystery PDF Author: John De Gruchy
Publisher: Hymns Ancient and Modern Ltd
ISBN: 0334047366
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 257

Book Description
Led into Mystery is an unanticipated sequel to John de Gruchy's book Being Human: Confessions of a Christian Humanist. It was prompted by the untimely and tragic death of his eldest son, Steve, in February 2010, and the questions this posed about the meaning of life and death from the perspective of Christian faith. A further prompt came as a result of a multi-disciplinary research project on "the humanist imperative in South Africa" (2009-2010). This raised critical questions about being human from the perspective of science, especially neuroscience, as well as other faith and secular perspectives. All these inform the discussion which is an exploration of mystery on the boundaries of human knowledge and experience, engagement with the world and the evolution of consciousness from a specifically Christian theological perspective. The title derives from Karl Rahner's comment that theology is about being led back into mystery -- the ultimate mystery of God disclosed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and the creative presence of the Spirit in the life of the world. This mystery is an open secret waiting to be explored, expressed and entered into by faith. In doing so, we discern the fragmentary mystery of being human alone and in relationship within the constraints of our time and space. We are rudely encountered by the perplexing mysteries of evil and death, but embraced by the mysteries of goodness and beauty, hope and love. We draw on memory and imagination to develop a language that enables us to explore mystery through the genre of myth, parable, poetry, the novel, music and art, we participate in the mysteries of faith that communicate grace, forgiveness, and freedom which enable us to be more fully human in the life of the world in the struggles for justice and peace.

Book Description
The Christian faith is filled with mystery, from the Trinity and the Incarnation to the smaller mysteries found in some of the strange and unexplained passages of the Bible: Behemoth and Leviathan, nephilim and seraphim, heroes and giants and more. There is no reason for fiction engaging with Christianity to be more tidy and theologically precise than the faith itself. Here you will find challenging fantasy, science fiction, and horror stories that wrestle with tough questions and refuse to provide easy answers or censored depictions of a broken world, characters whose deeds are as obscene as their words and people who meet bad ends-sometimes deserved and sometimes not. But there are also hope, grace, and redemption, though even they can burn like fire. Join us as we rediscover the mysteries of the Christian faith. Featuring stories by Daniel Southwell, Stephen Case, Bret Carter, H. L. Fullerton, David Tallerman, James Beamon, Robert B Finegold MD, Pauline J. Alama, J. S. Bangs, Kenneth Schneyer, Christian Leithart, F. R. Michaels, Rachael K. Jones, S. Q. Eries, Beth Cato, G. Scott Huggins, Laurel Amberdine, Joanna Michal Hoyt, Mike Barretta, Sarah Ellen Rogers. The Christian Mystery

The Christian Mystery PDF Author: Louis Bouyer
Publisher: A&C Black
ISBN: 0567408868
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
Mysticism has a place in all the major world religions. This book begins with the assertion that Christian Mysticism, in its most essential state, is the mystery of Christ's union with God. Certain major theologians including Albert Ritschl and Karl Barth have stood in opposition to the concept of mysticism and have even suggested that it is opposite to the heart of the Gospel and indeed the whole Bible. Yet Bouyer here makes a strong argument for understanding Mysticism as central to the Christian faith. This analysis of mysticism is contrasted with its place in pagan religions and its role throughout Christian history. In so doing, Bouyer reveals the significance of mysticism for understanding the meaning of life.

Discover the Mystery of Faith

Discover the Mystery of Faith PDF Author: Glenn Packiam
Publisher: David C Cook
ISBN: 1434707024
Category : Religion

Pages : 120

Book Description
What if the way we worship isn't just an expression of our faith, but is what shapes our faith? The Church has believed this about the way we worship and pray together for centuries: The way we worship becomes the way we believe. But if this is true, it’s time to take a closer look at what we say and sing and do each week. Drawing from his own discovery of ancient worship practices, Glenn Packiam helps us understand why the Church made creedal proclamations and Psalm-praying a regular part of their worship. He shares about why the Eucharist was the climactic point of their corporate “re-telling of the salvation story.” When our worship becomes a rich feast, our faith is nourished and no longer anemic. The more our worship speaks of Christ, the more we enter into the mystery of faith.

The Christian Mystery

The Christian Mystery PDF Author: Lois Lang-Sims
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000228193
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 189

Book Description
First published in 1980, The Christian Mystery presents a new approach to considering the Mysteries of the Faith. The book examines the doctrines of Christianity, analysing them closely and showing how together they constitute an invisible whole. It argues that churches should turn back to the esoteric teachings known by the first Christians and explores how Christianity has developed the primal Tradition of which Jesus was Representative. The Christian Mystery will appeal to those with an interest in theology, the philosophy of religion, and the history of Christianity.
