The Mummy's Quest

The Mummy's Quest PDF Author: Robin Bailes
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781549725029

Languages : en
Pages : 133

Book Description
The Mummy's Quest is the first of a series of horror/comedy books inspired by the classic horror films of the 1930s (and by Universal Studios attempt to reinvent them as a single universe - this is my version). The stories are set in the present but with a classic feel, a tongue in cheek delivery, and many references to the originals for horror film fans to spot. In a basement gallery of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, is displayed the Mummy known as the Priest with Turquoise Eyes. It is believed to be the mummy of Ramose, High Priest to Queen Amunet, ruler of Ancient Egypt's Lost Dynasty. Amelia Evans (Egyptologist, bookworm and tea enthusiast) has been trying to decipher the cryptic hieroglyphics on the Priest's sarcophagus for many years, but her work takes an unexpected turn when she arrives at the museum one morning to find a dead body on the floor and the Mummy gone.At the same time, Arthur Banning - a young archaeology graduate, embarking on his first dig in an attempt to impress his girlfriend - joins a top secret excavation in Egypt's Western Desert. The dig is run by Arthur's old mentor, Professor Andoheb, and tough, 'seen-it-all' site manager, Maggie Moran, a woman who sleeps in a Wham! T-shirt with a gun under her pillow. They believe they have located the lost tomb of Queen Amunet. But they do not seem to be alone out in the desert. The two sides of the story are brought together by Boris, the suave, panther-like agent of a shadowy organisation called Universal Egyptology. Boris has a theory: he thinks the Mummy is going home. Now it's up to Amelia and Arthur to track down the Priest with Turquoise Eyes and stop him from resurrecting a Witch Queen and her army of the dead. It's an adventure to which neither is well-suited, and the Mummy's story may yet prove not to be as simple as it seems.

The Mummy on Screen

The Mummy on Screen PDF Author: Basil Glynn
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350129380
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
The Mummy is one of the most recognizable figures in horror and is as established in the popular imagination as virtually any other monster, yet the Mummy on screen has until now remained a largely overlooked figure in critical analysis of the cinema. In this compelling new study, Basil Glynn explores the history of the Mummy film, uncovering lost and half-forgotten movies along the way, revealing the cinematic Mummy to be an astonishingly diverse and protean figure with a myriad of on-screen incarnations. In the course of investigating the enduring appeal of this most 'Oriental' of monsters, Glynn traces the Mummy's development on screen from its roots in popular culture and silent cinema, through Universal Studios' Mummy movies of the 1930s and 40s, to Hammer Horror's re-imagining of the figure in the 1950s, and beyond.

Mummy Movies

Mummy Movies PDF Author: Bryan Senn
Publisher: McFarland

Category : Performing Arts

Pages : 346

Book Description
In 1932, The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff, introduced another icon to the classic monster pantheon, beginning a journey down the cinematic Nile that has yet to reach its end. Over the past century, movie mummies have met everyone from Abbott and Costello to Tom Cruise, not to mention a myriad of fellow monsters. Horrifying and mysterious, the mummy comes from a different time with uncommon knowledge and unique motivation, offering the lure of the exotic as well as the terrors of the dark. From obscure no-budgeters to Hollywood blockbusters, the mummy has featured in films from all over the globe, including Brazil, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, and even its fictional home country of Egypt--with each film bringing its own cultural sensibilities. Movie mummies have taken the form of teenagers, superheroes, dwarves, kung fu fighters, Satanists, cannibals and even mummies from outer space. Some can fly, some are sexy, some are scary and some are hilarious, and mummies quickly moved beyond horror cinema and into science fiction, comedy, romance, sexploitation and cartoons. From the Universal classics to the Aztec Mummy series, from Hammer's versions to Mexico's Guanajuato variations, this first-ever comprehensive guide to mummy movies offers in-depth production histories and critical analyses for every feature-length iteration of bandaged horror.
