Book Description
Excerpt from The Morning Watch, or Quarterly Journal on Prophecy, and Theological Review, 1830, Vol. 2 With Man. The whole creation fell; and when his redemption takes effect, it too shall be redeemed: this is the argument of Rom. Viii. 18 - 39. The h0pe set before us is joint heirship with Christ That we may be also glorified together (ver. Now, in com arison with this glory, present sufferings are as nothing, whet er in ourselves or in the creation. For the crea tion, which was made subject to vanity, not by its own fault, waits in hepe of deliverance from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God; and we ourselves also, though having the first-fruits of the Spirit, wait for a like deliverance at the resurrection: -both parties saved by how of thin not yet seen, and waiting with patience for them. Book Description
Excerpt from The Morning Watch, Vol. 4: Or, Quarterly Journal on Prophecy, and Theological Review With a 'oy like this, man's being began; when Adam, the image of 0d, held unabashed communion with his Creator, and saw in every object of creation the perfect impress of God reading in each some lesson; seeing in every one some index directing him to the Source of all good, in whom his best affections centred teaching him to love the Lord his God with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might. And this primeval joy we delight' to contemplate, and instino tivel crave, not only when the soul is vexed with the storms of a fallen world, and. Driven by its miseries to desire a place of refuge where the wicked cease from troubling, and where the weary shall be at rest but we feel it also in the most prosperous circumstances, and in the purest and noblest exercises of the soul proving that a destiny of higher dignity than the present is the roper end and appointment of man. 0 thou Sun and Life otpsouls, shed abroad thy light and vital heat - the belief of the truth of unseen things, and the love of their superlative ood ness - in the minds and hearts of men; that they may not rame to themselves an imaginary happiness in the enjoyments of this perishing life, but with al zeal and vigour in their affections and actions seek after the real blessedness of the world to come, as becomes an object so glorious and eternal. Book Description

Not illustrated. 1833 edition. Excerpt: ... Finally, I am assured in my own spirit, and by the Spirit of the Lord, that those who will not boldly brave the war, come out of Babylon, and fight against her, shall be taken in her snares. For " the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent taken it by force." But it is a warfare of weeping and lamentation, with breaking of the loins and sounding DEGREESof the bowels; not with envy and malice, strife and tumult, but with pity and compassion, with words of truth and coals Jof love, after the manner of Him who said, " O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate" (Matt. sxiii. 37, 38). EDWARD IRVING, A. M. Pastor of Christ's Flock in London. THE RECORD NEWSPAPER. The Record is still at its old work of misrepresentation, the mere statement of which we deem to be a sufficient exposure. It appears that a remonstrance was sent to them, from " a New Member of Mr. Irving's ejected Church," on their misuse of terms, in calling Mr. Irving's doctrines novelties and heresy; quoting a passage from Flavel, to shew that similar doctrines were held by men esteemed venerable and orthodox. The Record refused insertion to the "New Member's" letter--which they were quite free to do--but they inserted an abusive reply to this letter which they suppress, and made it an occasion of vilifying Mr. Irving, and slandering the Morning Watch;--all which we think no man is free to do but the man who has broken loose from the bonds of decency and honour. Several letters passed between the "New Member" and the Record. These have been sent...
