Book Description
In chemical and process industries, many operations require mixing of solid particles in liquids and are often carried out in mechanically-agitated tanks. This work is an experimental study of particle-liquid mixing at relatively high concentrations by using a matched refractive index method. The method has made it possible to conduct, at high concentrations, particle visualizations with a photographic technique and particle concentration measurement with a light transmission technique. Axial particle concentration profile and uniformity, particle motion pattern, and profile of unsuspended particles have been determined at a given tank scale and impeller size. Effects of impeller speed, impeller clearance, particle size and particle concentration have been examining ed using two impwller typeseller types.....

The Mixing of Floating Particles in Water in Agitated Tanks

The Mixing of Floating Particles in Water in Agitated Tanks PDF Author: Nasrolah Majidian
Publisher:

Languages : en
Pages : 387

Book Description
A new tiechnique has been developed for following the progress of mixing in solid-liquid systems where the solids are less dense than the liquid The technique is based on the measurement of the mass of particles on the liquid surface and uses a monitoring device which consists of a combination of infra-red emitters - detectors to monitor the whole of the liquid surface. The technique offers a number of advantages and reduces the subjectivity usually associated with solid suspension experiments and facilitates the extension of this experiment to any type of vessel. The monitoring device can be calibrated in absolute terms to give the mass of particles on the surface at any time. This allows mixing to be described quantitatively and reproducibly as a function of impeller speed. The experimental work has been carried out in an agitated tank of 140mm diameter for a range of particle concentrations, using disc turbines, 4-bladed 45 degree pitched turbines and a marine propeller. A simple model was developed....

Mixing V3

Mixing V3 PDF Author: Vincent W. Uhl
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032315588X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 325

Book Description
Mixing: Theory and Practice, Volume III is a five-chapter text that covers the significant improvements in the theoretical aspects and knowledge in mixing related to industrial-scale operations. The introductory chapters deal with the agitation of particulate solid-liquid mixtures and the turbulent radial mixing in pipes, with particular emphasis on the effects of jets and baffles on such mixing. The following chapter presents the theoretical analysis and experimental confirmation for predicting hydrodynamic characteristics and some process results in mechanically agitated vessels. Another chapter provides a comprehensive development of approaches and recommended practices for scale-up of agitated liquid equipment. The methods considered serve as a useful guide for reducing the risk of scale-up and scale-down catastrophes. The last chapter discusses the fundamental concepts and measures of the quality of mixing and the mechanisms of mixing and segregation. This chapter also introduces the process of continuous mixing of solids.

Fluid Mechanics of Mixing

Fluid Mechanics of Mixing PDF Author: R. King
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401579733
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 261

Book Description
This volume is a selection of the material presented at the 7th European Mixing Congress. It is concerned exclusively with mixing in circular section vessels, using centrally mounted paddles or similar impellers. The contents are arranged under three classifications: Modelling of Mixing Processes, Mixing Operations and Experimental Techniques. The classifications result in the original material appearing in a different order to that of the Congress. This arrangement is intended to assist the reader in identifying the topic area by function or application, rather than by technology. In this book the section on Modelling contains papers which focus on the representation of the mixing process, whether by equation, scale-up criteria, or fluid dynamic simulation. Similarly, Mixing Operations are concerned with the application or function of the mixing process, such as mass transfer, heat transfer or mixing time. Experimental Techniques addresses the tools the researcher needs to use at the data gathering experimental stage. It collects together advances made in the various methods used by some of the foremost researchers, and indicates those areas still in need of additional instrumentation or methods of data reduction. The book is intended for researchers, designers and users of mixing equipment, and for those planning research and development programmes and who wish to keep up to date with advances in the basic technology and its applications.

Principles and Technologies of Flotation Machines

Principles and Technologies of Flotation Machines PDF Author: Zhengchang Shen
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811603324
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 497

Book Description
This book highlights the principles and technologies of flotation machine mainly used in mineral processing in detail. Froth flotation is one of the most important mineral processing techniques. Over 90% of the nonferrous minerals and 50% of the ferrous minerals in the world are treated using flotation: a complicated technique including procedures from chemistry, physics and multi-scale fluid mechanics. The book introduces readers to air-forced and air-induced flotation cells and discusses the various mechanical structures and working principles involved. A number of examples from industrial engineering practice are also discussed throughout the book, helping readers to better understand the technology and relevant equipment. The book is intended for researchers, professionals and graduate students in the fields of mining and mineral processing engineering.
