Book Description
This study investigated how Indian, French-Canadian, and English-Canadian schoolchildren see themselves and people in their environment. Fifty-six French-Canadians, forty-four English, and fifty-one Indians acted as subjects. Subjects were either in the 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grades. Their ages ranged from ten to sixteen years. The Indian subjects were from the Fort Alexander Indian Reserve and the whites were from Powerview, Manitoba. Both communities are located about 80 miles north of Winnipeg. A pre-test was administered in which the subjects were asked to list and define all of the good and bad words used to describe people they know. Then the subjects were requested to list the five most significant people in their lives. From the pre-test results twelve words were selected. These twelve words were used as scales in the semantic differential which was the assessment instrument. Then the role titles of twelve people in the social environment whom all subjects would have formed an opinion toward were used as concepts. A questionnaire booklet of twelve pages was formed. On each page in the booklet was a concept of the role title of a person and twelve scale words and their bipolar opposites... The findings showed that Indian subjects did not differ significantly in self-perception from the French-Canadian or English-Canadian school-children... Both of the variables of age and sex groups revealed no significant differences on the self-perception concept when analyzed by the analysis of variance design.

Lanthanides, Tantalum and Niobium

Lanthanides, Tantalum and Niobium PDF Author: Peter Möller
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364287262X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 383

Book Description
Rare Earth Elements (REE) as well as tantalum and niobium are of tremendous importance because of their specific high-technology applications. The contributions gathered in this volume give an up-to-date survey on the mineralogy, primary ore deposits, prospecting, processing and applications of REE, Ta, and Nd, making this volume a useful handbook for practitioners and students. Finally, the comprehensive coverage of the fundamental aspects, especially as regards REE as tracers of geological phenomena, will prove extremely helpful.

Micas

Micas PDF Author: S.W. Bailey
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 1501508822
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
Volume 13 of Reviews in Mineralogy attempts to gather together much of our knowledge of micas, the most abundant phyllosilicate, and to indicate promising areas of future research. Chapters 1-3 lay the foundations of the classification, structures, and crystal chemistry of micas. Chapter 4 treats bonding and electrostatic modeling of micas. Chapters 5 and 6 cover spectroscopic and optical properties. Chapters 7-13, the bulk of the volume, are devoted to geochemistry and petrology. These include phase equilibria and the occurrences, chemistry, and petrology of micas in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, pegmatites, and certain ore deposits. Some treatments are exhaustive. All are at the forefront of our present knowledge, and indicate clearly the practical applications'of the study of micas to ascertaining various parameters of origin and crystallization history, as well as the many problems that still exist. The aim of this type of treatment is to provide a reference volume for teachers and students and to enable researchers to pick more easily those directions and problems for which future research is most needed or is apt to be most productive or most challenging.

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468451979
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 407

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Archean Rare-Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia

Archean Rare-Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia PDF Author: Thomas Dittrich
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030109437
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
Lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites are important resources for rare metals. For Cs, only the LCT pegmatites with the zeolite group mineral pollucite at Bikita (Zimbabwe Craton) and Tanco (Superior Province Craton) are of commercial importance. Common characteristics of world-class LCT pegmatite deposits include their Meso- to Neoarchean age and geological setting within greenstone belt lithologies on Archean Cratons. This study presents the first coherent and comparative scientific investigation of five major LCT pegmatite systems from the Yilgarn, Pilbara and Zimbabwe Craton. For the evaluation of their Cs potential and of the genetic concepts of pollucite formation, the pegmatites from Wodgina, Londonderry, Mount Deans and Cattlin Creek were compared to the Bikita pollucite mineralization. The integration of the new data (e.g., geochronological and radiogenic isotope data) into the complex geological framework: 1) enhances our knowledge of the formation of LCT pegmatite systems, and 2) will contribute to the further exploration of additional world-class LCT pegmatite deposits, which 3) may host massive pollucite mineralisations.
