The Master¿s Questions to His Disciples PDF Author: George Halley Knight
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781554525355
Category : Bible

Pages : 324

Book Description
This is an exceptional King James Version training tool for the Christian. As we see the fulfillment of biblical prophecy unfolding daily, one cannot question the rapid approach of the end times spoken of in the scriptures. With the diluting of God's word and the many different versions of the Bible, there brings a need for a simple presentation to humble the "Now Generation." Taking time to read this book will truly leave one gazing upon the face of God. Leaving one with the question, "Am I living my life kind of Christ-like or am I living my life like Christ?" The questions which our Lord addressed to His disciples at various times are gathered together here from the Four Gospels, and arranged to form the basis of a series of meditations for those private hours, whether on the Lord's Day or on other days, which every Christian heart delights to set apart as silent hours with God. These meditations, being meant for Christians, have been written in such a personal form that each reader may adopt them as his own. "If the blessing of the Great Master Himself shall accompany the reading of these chapters, and any of His disciples be thereby led to a higher faith, a larger trust, a deeper self-scrutiny, and a heartier consecration, my aim in writing them will be attained." -Garelochhead, 1905 *A portion of the sales of this book will go to support the Teen Challenge FARM in London, Ontario, Canada.

Early Modernity and Mobility

Early Modernity and Mobility PDF Author: Sebouh David Aslanian
Publisher: Yale University Press
ISBN: 0300271212
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 582

Book Description
A history of the continent-spanning Armenian print tradition in the early modern period Early Modernity and Mobility explores the disparate yet connected histories of Armenian printing establishments in early modern Europe and Asia. From 1512, when the first Armenian printed codex appeared in Venice, to the end of the early modern period in 1800, Armenian presses operated in nineteen locations across the Armenian diaspora. Linking far-flung locations in Amsterdam, Livorno, Marseille, Saint Petersburg, and Astrakhan to New Julfa, Madras, and Calcutta, Armenian presses published a thousand editions with more than half a million printed volumes in Armenian script. Drawing on extensive archival research, Sebouh David Aslanian explores why certain books were published at certain times, how books were sold across the diaspora, who read them, and how the printed word helped fashion a new collective identity for early modern Armenians. In examining the Armenian print tradition Aslanian tells a larger story about the making of the diaspora itself. Arguing that “confessionalism” and the hardening of boundaries between the Armenian and Roman churches was the “driving engine” of Armenian book history, Aslanian makes a revisionist contribution to the early modern origins of Armenian nationalism.

The so-called "Sayings Source" ("Q") contains traditions that can be found in the narrative gospels of Matthew and Luke. Situated within both early Judaism and the burgeoning Jesus movement, the sayings waver somewhere between the historical Jesus and the Christian communities. Following the reconstructed text of the "Critical Edition of Q", Tiwald brings a new study on the narratology of Q as a coherent attempt to answer the question: Who is Jesus?

Philosopher, Practitioner, Politician: the Many Lives of Fazang (643-712) PDF Author: Jinhua Chen
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9047420004
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 560

Book Description
The Buddhist monk Fazang (643-712), regarded today mainly as a scholastic monk, was in fact one of the greatest metaphysicians in Asia. This biographical - and hagiographical - study of Fazang seeks to explore his other contributions and in so doing to correct some major mis-presentations and misinterpretations existing in modern scholarship. It highlights and uncovers aspects of Fazang’s complicated life which have been neglected or ignored until now. By experimenting with some methodological innovations in reading medieval Chinese monastic hagio-biography, this study reveals general features, structures and overall governing laws of medieval East Asian monastic hagio-biographic literature. In doing so it is a major contribution to the ongoing discussion among scholars of hagiography in other contexts as well.
