In contrast, despite slightly higher farm prices for oilseeds, returns for fats and oils products dropped sharply because of a decrease in the value of soybean and cottonseed oils relative to meal. Total farm value for market basket foods varied widely during the quarter. It increased significantly from June to July, decreased almost as much in Angust, and rose moderately in September. Compared with a year earlier, the farm value was up percent in the third quarter with most of the increase coming from higher returns for meat animals. Farm value was 28 percent above 1967.
