Graviola is the Brazilian Portuguese name (also known as soursop) for the fruit of Annona muricata, a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen 4 to 10 meter tall tree from the Amazon rain forest, also found in the Caribbean, Mexico, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The soursop fruit and other parts of the tree are considered to be underutilized. Information on the composition, nutritional values, medicinal uses, and toxicology of the soursop fruit and plant is limited and scattered. Some studies show these extracts to be active against breast, lung, colon, prostate, pancreas, liver, skin cancer, and leukemia cell lines. However, graviola products have not been studied in cancer patients."
