The Lukewarm Lutherans

The Lukewarm Lutherans PDF Author: L. C. Reed
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1098027523
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 168

Book Description
The Lutheran church is known for sound doctrine and order in its service, but in their efforts to stay true to the teachings of Martin Luther, something seems to get lost. Passion in the message, passion in prayer, and passion in worship has led to a lukewarm lifestyle in the hearts of Lutheran believers. Rituals and traditions have taken the place of relationship with God so much so that the idea of having a true personal relationship with God is foreign to most Lutheran believers. The Lukewarm Lutherans points out some simple truths about the Lutheran church that needs to be addressed before Christ returns and the Lutheran church finds itself in the same predicament as the church of the Laodiceans mentioned in the Revelation of Jesus Christ who warns that they will be violently rejected by Christ at his return.

ISBN: 1506416659
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 815

Book Description
This unique collection of excerpts from Lutheran historical documents--many translated here for the first time--presents readers with a full picture of how the Lutheran movement developed in its thought and practice. Covering not only theology but also church life, popular piety, and influential historical events, the primary documents include theological treatises, confessional statements, liturgical texts, devotional writings, hymns, letters and diaries, satirical polemics, political documents, woodcuts, and pamphlet literature. This first volume covers the chronological period from Luther‘s first calls for reform to the development of Lutheran Orthodoxy and Pietism during the seventeenth century. The judiciously selected and carefully translated texts as well as the contextualizing information provided in each chapter‘s introductory essay acquaint readers with the turbulence and fervor of this revolutionary Christian movement, its struggles for survival and consolidation, and its further evolution up to the dawn of the Enlightenment.

Book Description
In a clear, nontechnical way, this noted Reformation historian tells the story of how the nascent reforming and confessional movement sparked and led by Martin Luther survived its first battles with religious and political authorities to become institutionalized in its religious practices and teachings. Crisis in Lutheran Theology, Vol. 3

Crisis in Lutheran Theology, Vol. 3 PDF Author: John Warwick Montgomery
Publisher: New Reformation Publications
ISBN: 1945978910
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
All Three volumes deal with the issue of biblical inerrancy (that the Bible is completely true and accurate, not only when it speaks to ideas of religious belief, but also when it speaks about factual elements of history and science, properly understood). This issue rocked the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, prompting the release of the first two volumes. Volume one consists of essays by John Warwick Montgomery himself, and is addressed primarily to theologians. Volume two consists of an anthology by eight separate Lutheran contributors and is addressed to laymen as well as professional theologians. Volume 3 contains new, never before published material and consists of essays by Dr. Montgomery outlining a new challenge along the same lines. Dr. Jeffery Kloha suggested a few years ago with the latest critical edition of the New Testament (Nestle-Aland 28th Edition), because of the interchangeability of some variant readings, that we now had a "plastic text". Dr. Montgomery goes up against this assertion with everything he has. Though obviously addressing themselves primarily to Lutheranism, the materials are, to a large degree, equally applicable to many of the other Christian communions and will be found to be extremely valuable in assessing the needs of a variety of denominations.
