Book Description
Providing a solid foundation in the normal development of functional movement, Functional Movement Development Across the Life Span, 3rd Edition helps you recognize and understand movement disorders and effectively manage patients with abnormal motor function. It begins with coverage of basic theory, motor development and motor control, and evaluation of function, then discusses the body systems contributing to functional movement, and defines functional movement outcomes in terms of age, vital functions, posture and balance, locomotion, prehension, and health and illness. This edition includes more clinical examples and applications, and updates data relating to typical performance on standardized tests of balance. Written by physical therapy experts Donna J. Cech and Suzanne "Tink" Martin, this book provides evidence-based information and tools you need to understand functional movement and manage patients' functional skills throughout the life span. Over 200 illustrations, tables, and special features clarify developmental concepts, address clinical implications, and summarize key points relating to clinical practice. A focus on evidence-based information covers development changes across the life span and how they impact function. A logical, easy-to-read format includes 15 chapters organized into three units covering basics, body systems, and age-related functional outcomes respectively. Expanded integration of ICF (International Classification of Function) aligns learning and critical thinking with current health care models. Additional clinical examples help you apply developmental information to clinical practice. Expanded content on assessment of function now includes discussion of participation level standardized assessments and assessments of quality-of-life scales. More concise information on the normal anatomy and physiology of each body system allows a sharper focus on development changes across the lifespan and how they impact function.

It was during one of the most challenging times in my life that I told myself that things had to be different, that there was more for me than what was being offered at that time; in that moment, I found myself believing that there was more in me to give. Since then, all the steps, decisions, and choices that I have made propelled me towards my many accomplishments. It kindled a flame, a deep desire that led me to harness every fiber of my being, strength and absolutely everything I could pull on from inside and channel it towards evolving, to becoming the version of me that would pave the way for what I was about to build- "My legacy". This led me to building a business from scratch and scaling it in an industry dominated by men which took extra grit and tenacity. Nonetheless I doubled down to create an iconic brand which is known throughout Jamaica, the Caribbean and other places outside this geographic region. It was through this that my purpose was unveiled, a new level of happiness immerged, and my financial freedom was unlocked. Through persistence and my inability to accept defeat, I was able to overcome the numerous trials that were thrown at me. I, a woman found peace succeeding in my many roles- some would say I have my hands full with it all; the role of a wife, mother, daughter, sister, successful entrepreneur, C.E.O and feminist. I am sharing my story to inspire women like my younger self to follow their dreams and find courage in knowing that if I can accomplish such a feat, they too can do it as well. Throughout history, women have been marginalized, and I say it is time for us to revolutionize our roles, goals, and visions. Times have changed and opportunities are more prominent, this is the best time to put your best foot forward. Journey with me as I share some key experiences and life lessons that ushered me towards the path I am on. The extensive insight of how those experiences were able to mold me into who I am from my early years to maturity in leading my business. Keen details of all the amenities I had to put off, how I was torn by heartbreaks, betrayals and how I overcame them, the uncertainty I felt at times which could have prevented me from continuing along this path and finding forgiveness and happiness through it all. I am able to confidently share my battle with self-esteem issues and how I became victorious, my unawareness at times and the process by which I began to understand myself and what I wanted from life. My story reveals my thought process, how I was able to manifest my goals and dreams inviting them to reality. It is my desire to positively impact the lives of as many people as I can, to inspire them to find their purpose, in developing a consistent deliberate attitude towards pursuing their dreams through my story.

Life Span Motor Development

Life Span Motor Development PDF Author: Kathleen M. Haywood
Publisher: Human Kinetics
ISBN: 1718210825
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 610

Book Description
Life Span Motor Development, Seventh Edition With HKPropel Access, is a leading text for helping students examine and understand how interactions of the developing and maturing individual, the environment, and the task being performed bring about changes in a person’s movements. This model of constraints approach, combined with an unprecedented collection of video clips marking motor development milestones, facilitates an unmatched learning experience for the study of motor development across the life span. The seventh edition expands the tradition of making the student’s experience with motor development an interactive one. Related online learning tools delivered through HKPropel include more than 190 video clips marking motor development milestones to sharpen observation techniques, with interactive questions and 47 lab activities to facilitate critical thinking and hands-on application. The lab activities may be assigned and tracked by instructors through HKPropel, along with chapter quizzes (assessments) that are automatically graded to test comprehension of critical concepts. The text also contains several updates to keep pace with the changing field: Content related to physcial growth and development of the skeletal, muscle, and adipose systems is reorganized chronologically for a more logical progression. New material on developmental motor learning demonstrates the overlap between the disciplines of motor development and motor learning. New insights into motor competence help explain the relationship between skill development and physical fitness. The text helps students understand how maturational age and chronological age are distinct and how functional constraints affect motor skill development and learning. It shows how the four components of physical fitness—cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, and body composition—interact to affect a person’s movements over the life span, and describes how relevant social, cultural, psychosocial, and cognitive influences can affect a person’s movements. This edition comes with 148 illustrations, 60 photos, and 25 tables—all in full color—to help explain concepts and to make the text more engaging for students. It also retains helpful learning aids including chapter objectives, a running glossary, key points, sidebars, and application questions throughout each chapter. Life Span Motor Development, Seventh Edition, embraces an interactive and practical approach to illustrate the most recent research in motor development. Students will come away with a firm understanding of the concepts and how they apply to real-world situations. Note: A code for accessing HKPropel is not included with this ebook but may be purchased separately.
