Excerpt from The Life of Major-General William Henry Harrison: Comprising a Brief Account of His Important Civil and Military Services, and an Accurate Description of the Council at Vincennes With Tecumseh, as Well as the Victories of Tippecanoe, Fort Meigs and the Thames William Henry Harrison was born in Virginia, on the 9th day of February, 1773, at Berkley on the Janies River, about twenty-five miles below Richmond. He was the third son of Benjamin Harrison, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and subsequently Governor of Virginia. Benjamin Harrison was one of the earliest and most conspicuous patriots, and the most active, devoted, and fearless political leaders of the Revolution. His services during and after that eventful period, were inferior in importance to those of but few of his compatriots.
