Flora of Australia - Lichens

Flora of Australia - Lichens PDF Author: AUSTRALIAN BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES STUDY
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780643096882
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 708

Book Description
Volume 57 is the fifth volume of the Flora of Australia which documents the lichens. It emphasizes several speciose and ecologically significant families that colonize the bark of trees and shrubs in monsoon vine forest and in coastal and montane rainforest across northern Australia, "viz." Graphidaceae, Phyllopsoraceae, Pyrenulaceae, Thelotremataceae and Trypetheliaceae. In addition, treatments are provided for prominent, mainly tropical and subtropical genera such as "Dirinaria, Letrouitia, Pyxine" and "Strigula," as well as the more widely distributed "Buellia s. str., Lepraria, Ramboldia" and "Tephromela." In contrast, the volume also includes lichens that are primarily associated with cool-temperate and montane habitats in south-eastern Australia, for example "Nephroma, Peltigera, Thelocarpon" and "Umbilicaria."

Complete or partial accounts of 21 families are provided, including 78 genera and 654 species and infra-specific taxa. One genus (Schizotrema, Thelotremataceae) and 27 species are described as new to science, and 35 new combinations are made. This work brings to 1822 the number of Australian lichen species and infra-specific taxa treated in the five volumes published. Features * A fully up-to-date account of a significant component of the Australian lichen flora * Full descriptions and synonymy * Comprehensive lists of lichen compounds * Habitat information * Distribution map for each species * 183 plates of high-quality black and white photos and line-art * 64 color illustrations

Catalogue of Australian Lichens

Catalogue of Australian Lichens PDF Author: Patrick M. McCarthy
Publisher: CSIRO Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
This catalogue lists 396 genera and 3138 species and infraspecific taxa of lichens known from Australia and its external island territories. Thirty-four percent (1058 taxa) are endemic, with levels of endemism and overall diversity markedly higher in the eastern and south-eastern States. Genera are listed alphabetically, as are the accepted species under each generic heading. Synonyms that have been applied to Australian specimens are inserted under the appropriate species name. Each genus is accompanied by a chronological list of literature citations that provide locality details, descriptions, identification keys and/or habitat information.

Flora of Australia [op]

Flora of Australia [op] PDF Author: Anthony E. Orchard

Pages : 388

Book Description
Volume 55 contains an account of the largest family of lichens in Australia, the Parmeliaceae. This family, familiar to most people as the common grey or brown to yellowish green foliose lichens of rocks, soil and bark, has about 60 genera and 1000 species worldwide. Thirty-one genera and 395 species are recorded from Australia. The book has keys for identification of genera and species. Each species is fully described, with bibliographic information, a full Australian synonymy, notes on habitat and distribution, and a summary of its chemistry. A distribution map is provided for each taxon and many species are illustrated in colour. An innovation in this volume is the inclusion of a synoptic key to the genera. This volume provides an excellent modern account of a difficult family.
