Validity and Validation in Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Validity and Validation in Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences PDF Author: Bruno D. Zumbo
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319077945
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 329

Book Description
This book combines an overview of validity theory, trends in validation practices and a review of standards and guidelines in several international jurisdictions with research synthesis of the validity evidence in different research areas. An overview of theory is both useful and timely, in view of the increased use of tests and measures for decision-making, ranking and policy purposes in large-scale testing, assessment and social indicators and quality of life research. Research synthesis is needed to help us assemble, critically appraise and integrate the overwhelming volume of research on validity in different contexts. Rather than examining whether any given measure is “valid”, the focus is on a critical appraisal of the kinds of validity evidence reported in the published research literature. The five sources of validity evidence discussed are: content-related, response processes, internal structure, associations with other variables and consequences. The 15 syntheses included here, represent a broad sampling of psychosocial, health, medical and educational research settings, giving us an extensive evidential basis to build upon earlier studies. The book concludes with a meta-synthesis of the 15 syntheses and a discussion of the current thinking of validation practices by leading experts in the field.

Instrument Development in the Affective Domain

Instrument Development in the Affective Domain PDF Author: Robert K. Gable
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401114005
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 315

Book Description
There has been longstanding interest in affective characteristics in both educational and corporate environments. While each domain has produced its own set of theorists and researchers, the work of some, such as Bandura, has found a place in the literature of both areas. In each of these settings, theorists and researchers have agreed on the causal connections between such constructs as self-efficacy and perceived satisfaction and success, whether that success is measured by academic achievement or corporate quality and performance resulting in profitability. Along with this interest, comes the need for the development of valid and reliable instruments to assess affective characteristics. It is clear that no matter whether your interest lies in the relationship between self-efficacy and academic success or employee satisfaction and corporate success, it is essential that the instruments used be carefully designed and tested to assure that they are measuring what they are intended to measure in a consistent manner. This work offers the theoretical perspective, modern psychometric techniques, real examples, and data needed to enable the instrument developer to produce such valid and reliable instruments.

Advances in Vocational Psychology

Advances in Vocational Psychology PDF Author: W. Bruce Walsh
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1135059845
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 222

Book Description
Advances in Vocational Psychology devoted to presenting and evaluating important advances in the field of interest measurement. Progress in three well known interest inventories -- the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory, the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey, and the Self Directed Search -- is closely examined. A focus on innovations in interest measurement directs attention to how more recent instruments provide technical and conceptual advances over older, more reliable ones. Both research and counseling perspectives combine to provide a well-balanced guide to the study of vocational psychology. How interest inventories can be used beneficially in the career counseling of minority and majority populations is also explored.

A Correlational Analysis of the Vocational Interest Inventory, the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey, and the Strong-Campbell Interest Survey

A Correlational Analysis of the Vocational Interest Inventory, the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey, and the Strong-Campbell Interest Survey PDF Author: Ann Gonzalez
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Vocational interests
Languages : en
Pages : 128

Book Description
"This study is a correlational analysis of the Vocational Interest Inventory (VII), the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey (Kuder), and the Strong- Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII). Its purpose is to determine the predicatability of the Kuder and the SCII from the VII, and to discuss how the Kuder and the SCII compare. Test scores were collected from 150 freshmen and sophomore college students, from Washington who had taken the VII as part of their Washington Pre-college test in high schooL Data was analyzed using a zero-order correlation and multiple regression to determine how much comparision there was between the SCII, the Kuder, and the VII and how predictable the VII is over time. Analysis of data showed significant correlations between the VII and the Kuder to be slightly higher than those correlations between the VII and the SCII. Further results of this study will be discussed at length in this thesis"--Document.
