Book Description
Excerpt from The Kansas City Medical Journal: April 1875 The universe is balanced by two forces. There must be an alternation; to be sure Typhon obscures the God of light, but then the God of light disperses Typhon. Life springs from death light come out of darkness; the evil is the shadow of the good. But the Egyptians were a hard people to manage they had a rather summary way of dealing with even refractory gods, and they clamored for 'the subjugation of Typhon, who in a feverish sort of way was making rather lively times for the physicians. Book Description
Excerpt from The Kansas City Medical Journal: June, 1875 I believe the water much more manageable and powerful than the air apparatus. By it the organ can be restored immediately and the instrument removed. It should never be introduced into the rectum, but placed in the vagina, for obvious anatomical rea sons. The patient should never be encumbered with that pest of gynecology, a pessary. It may be urged that there is danger of dilating the 08, and thereby inducing miscarriage. Such a result did not follow in the cases reported by Dr. Playfair nor in my own. Indeed, a glance at the anatomical and physiological points involved, is sufficient to show that such a result can not follow where the organ is replaced and the instrument removed at once. Book Description
Excerpt from The Kansas City Medical Journal: October, 1873 In this paper we propose to take a summary view of the morbid condition in which the human body is found to exist, when it has come under the influence of the disease inaptly called cholera. It is not our intention here to enter upon the question of its contagion, of its infection, or of its portability, nor yet to dwell upon its symptomatology or clinical history, and still less to arm ourself with nostrums and happy combin ations whereby the vile thing may be cast out, not less to the glorification of the officiating M. D. Than to the health and happiness of the dying victim; but it is solely our object at the present writing to inquire into the nature and character Of the morbid condition itself, and in the meantime to ascertain whether that condition be special or general; whether the morbid principle affects all the whole through a Single part, or whether the whole at once through all the parts, and finally to point out and to signalize the footprints of the invading enemy, namely, the anatomical lesions, and the pathological signifi cance of these lesions.
