Book Description
He looked at me as his smile faded into an expression of deep caring. Before he could speak, I held up my hand and said, "I'm not sure what you are about to say, but let me share something with you first. I realized, just this very second, that growing up means being able to accept that things will never be perfect. And on top of that, I now see that a truly engaged, self-determined human is someone who never stops pursuing the achievement of an ideal model. These people carry on despite knowing their ideal is impossible to attain. It is very clear to me that, just like our trip, the journey through life is where the most profound meaning can be found because it is how you travel through life, not how far you get, that really counts. Sure, goals are important, but once achieved, what then? Or what if you set goals and fail? What then? I now understand the only thing we have complete control of is how we carry on, how we live." Michael in The Journey to Meaning You are invited to join Michael and his friend Richard on a journey that has a profound impact on their lives. While canoeing through the Minnesota wilderness, Richard helps Michael search for meaning and fulfillment in his business and his personal life. This dramatic tale will have you searching your own heart for your personal meaning in life, and it will give you the practical tools you need to make your business, and your life, the greatest journey of all.

A Journey in Search of Wholeness and Meaning

A Journey in Search of Wholeness and Meaning PDF Author: Rupert Clive Collister
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9783034304900
Category : East and West
Languages : en
Pages : 252

Book Description
This book explores the concept that the reality which is created by the consciousness inherent in the Western worldview is exceptionally limiting and probably unsustainable. After describing the contexts within which the book was written the author documents his personal journey in search of wholeness and meaning. From his experience of this journey he suggests that the wisdom, insight, and praxis contained within - what he describes as the meta-narratives of - Holism, Indigenous cultures, and Eastern traditions are manifestations of a holistic consciousness. The author explores the concept that a shift to such a holistic consciousness is required in order to redress the imbalance that is evident in all humanity's relationships, and he suggests that enabling such a shift in consciousness would have deep implications for the concepts and contexts of community, adult learning, meaningful work, and sustainability.

Beyond Meaning: A Journey Across Language, Perception and Experience

Beyond Meaning: A Journey Across Language, Perception and Experience PDF Author: Gaetano Fiorin
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030463176
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 331

Book Description
Natural languages – idioms such as English and Cantonese, Zulu and Amharic, Basque and Nicaraguan Sign Language – allow their speakers to convey meaning and transmit meaning to one another. But what is meaning exactly? What is this thing that words convey and speakers communicate? Few questions are as elusive as this. Yet, few features are as essential to who we are and what we do as human beings as the capacity to convey meaning through language. In this book, Gaetano Fiorin and Denis Delfitto disclose a notion of linguistic meaning that is structured around three distinct, yet interconnected dimensions: a linguistic dimension, relating meaning to the linguistic forms that convey it; a material dimension, relating meaning to the material and social conditions of its environment; and a psychological dimension, relating meaning to the cognitive lives of its users. By paying special attention to the puzzle surrounding first-person reference – the way speakers exploit language to refer to themselves – and by capitalizing on a number of recent findings in the cognitive sciences, Fiorin and Delfitto develop the original hypothesis that meaningful language shares the same underlying logical and metaphysical structure of sense perception, effectively acting as a system of classification and discrimination at the interface between cognitive agents and their ecologies.
