Book Description
Excerpt from The Jewish-Christian Church No one is prepared to study the history Of Jewish Christianity who has not a knowledge Of some features Of Jewish culture. This will be readily admitted. Nor can he be prepared to study that history, especially to understand the effect produced upon the Gospel by its Jewish environment, unless he has paid some attention to the effect Of conditions in general. This fact is my excuse for devoting a few pages to that subject. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Jewish-Christian Church The chapters comprising this little book were originally written as parts of a much more ambitious work. A variety of causes brought that work to a stand-still several years ago, and it is doubtful when it will be completed, if at all. I send them out in this form, believing that they have a center of unity, and also that they will prove serviceable to students of the Bible, and of Church History and Theological Science. There can be no greater errors than these: "The Bible can be understood as an unrelated fact, separate from the general history of the world"; and "the History of the Church can be grasped simply by knowing what is going on in the homes and public meetings of Christians." Both the Scriptures and Church History are parts of the History of the Race, and they must be taken in their historical connections. He has studied the Bible to little purpose (other than a moral one) who has not learned to watch the currents of events and thoughts that move behind the page - that is. has not learned to read between the lines. To get into the minds of men who lived so long ago as the primitive Christians is difficult, but I hope I have not wholly failed in my attempt. Book Description
Excerpt from Syllabus of a Course of Lectures on "the Jewish Christian Church, St. Paul, and His Letter to the Galatians" In the complex fulness of the developed life of an institution it is often dificult to determine what are its essential and what its adventitious elements. But if we can acquaint ourselves with the simpler and more vital forms of its origin, and if we can trace its development, noting the causes that from time to time give rise to change, we more clearly discern not only the value of its parts, but apprehend tn an incmased degree the meaning and significance of the whole. Christianity and the Jew

Christianity and the Jew PDF Author: Delaware W. Scott

Book Description
Excerpt from Christianity and the Jew: An Appeal to the Church of Christ, to Preach the Gospel to the Jew It is with no little trepidation and anxiety that this unpretentious volume is sent forth. This little book and I have had many pleasant hours together. We have chatted by the fireside, we have walked in the moonlight, and have lain on the same pillow. We have been companions together for many long and weary months. Christianity and the Jew is the child of prayer. Years ago, in my youth, I formed a deep and lasting admiration for the Jewish people. I loved the heroic in the races Of men, and no history gripped me with such force as that Of the Jews. When a Child they played for me in the role Of warriors, and I stood with them on many a battle field; when in college they played for me in the role Of the torch-bearers Of civilization; but now they are playing for me in Jehovah's plan of the world's redemption through Jesus Christ. Some Great Christian Jews (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: John Stockton Littell

Book Description
Excerpt from Some Great Christian Jews Now this steadfast loyalty is a matter which calls for unqualified admiration. If the Jewish religion were an obvious falsehood or a fraud, a superstition, or a law operating in effect to foster wickedness as some ancient religions have done; if it were in some way harmful in its results, then we might admire the loyalty, while at the same time, in the interest of truth or progress or righteousness, we might depre cate it. But the Jewish religion is a true, clean, good religion. It is well for the world that Jews have been loyal to it. Book Description
Excerpt from The Psalms in the Jewish Church For one who is not a Jew either by race or religion to take upon himself the task of discussing the Jewish use of the Psalms may appear presumptuous; but the sympathy engendered by personal intercourse with Jews, interest in Jewish institutions, and the study of Jewish literature, can to some extent qualify a Christian to write on things Jewish, even though in many respects he may feel the want of more adequate know ledge. Book Description
Excerpt from A Manual of Christian Evidences for Jewish People, Vol. 1 Poland at that time was in even a greater ferment than were most countries in the sixteenth century. It had become the common receptacle for all sorts and conditions of religious enthusiasts; turbulent or original spirits that found no congenial home elsewhere. Every branch and sect of the Christian Church found liberty of speech in Poland, and obtained more or less following. It was inevitable that Jews also should be exposed to controversy, and it was typical Of the time and place (would that it were more typical Of every time and place!) that they were able to argue for their faith Openly without fear of consequences. Hence it is no great matter for wonder that Isaac tells us that he had frequent discussions with persons of every faith and rank, and that he had kept some records of these discussions.
