Titanium Alloys

Titanium Alloys PDF Author: W Sha
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1845695860
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 588

Book Description
Given their growing importance in the aerospace, automotive, sports and medical sectors, modelling the microstructure and properties of titanium and its alloys is a vital part of research into the development of new applications. This is the first time a book has been dedicated to modelling techniques for titanium.Part one discusses experimental techniques such as microscopy, synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. Part two reviews physical modelling methods including thermodynamic modelling, the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami method, finite element modelling, the phase-field method, the cellular automata method, crystallographic and fracture behaviour of titanium aluminide and atomistic simulations of interfaces and dislocations relevant to TiAl. Part three covers neural network models and Part four examines surface engineering products. These include surface nitriding: phase composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, morphology and corrosion; nitriding: modelling of hardness profiles and kinetics; and aluminising: fabrication of Ti coatings by mechanical alloying. With its distinguished authors, Titanium alloys: Modelling of microstructure, properties and applications is a standard reference for industry and researchers concerned with titanium modelling, as well as users of titanium, titanium alloys and titanium aluminide in the aerospace, automotive, sports and medical implant sectors. - Comprehensively assesses modelling techniques for titanium, including experimental techniques such as microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry - Reviews physical modelling methods including thermodynamic modelling and finite element modelling - Examines surface engineering products with specific chapters focused on surface nitriding and aluminising

Statistical Analysis of Tensile Properties of Heat-treated Ti-4A1-3Mo-1V and Ti-2.5A1-16V Sheet

Book Description
IN THE SOLUTION TREATED AND AGED CONDITION, Ti4Al-3Mo-1V has a higher ultimate strength than does Ti-2.5Al-16V, but the two alloys are about even in yield strength and elongation. In the solution-treated condition, Ti-4Al-3Mo-1V is unquestionably stronger than Ti-2.5Al-16V. These conclusions are independent of producer. There is not much difference in the same alloy produced by different companies. The alloys developed under the Titanium-Alloy Sheet-Rolling Program would not endure the most critical interpretation of release property specifications. On the other hand, these alloys come reasonably close to specifications. A complete set of release property specifications is available only for specimens that have been solution treated and aged. Such specimens do not all exhibit the desired ultimate and yield strength, but the percentage of rejects is small enough to be encouraging. (Author).

The Influence of Processing Variables on the Structure and Properties of Extruded Beta III Titanium

The Influence of Processing Variables on the Structure and Properties of Extruded Beta III Titanium PDF Author: Attwell M. Adair

Book Description
The extrusion temperature and cooling rate after extrusion were varied for round to round axisymmetric extrusions of the Beta 111 titanium alloy. The microstructures after extrusion and after heat treatment were examined both by optical and transmission electron microscopy and correlated with the room temperature mechanical properties. Heat treatment following extrusion consisted of either aging only or a solution treatment followed by aging. In contrast to air cooling after extrusion, direct water quenching immediately after extrusion was effective in retaining a significant amount of dislocation structure from the hot deformation, the effect being greater at the lowest extrusion temperature. This retained dislocation structure effectively promoted the formation of alpha during aging and retarded the tendency for the omega phase to form. The effect was greatest when specimens were aged without the intermediate solution treatment. The greater amount and finer distribution of alpha obtained in this manner resulted in significantly higher tensile strengths, quite acceptable values of RA, but with a small loss in fracture toughness. For the extrusion temperature range investigated, the extrusion pressures for the Beta 111 titanium alloy were somewhat lower than for the older, more well established beta titanium alloy. he extrusion pressures for Beta 111 were also lower than for alpha and alpha plus beta titanium alloys, for temperature ranges where they have significant amounts of alpha present. Titanium Alloys for Biomedical Development and Applications

Titanium Alloys for Biomedical Development and Applications PDF Author: Zhentao Yu
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128241659
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 246

Book Description
Titanium Alloys for Biomedical Development and Applications: Design, Microstructure, Properties and Application systematically introduces basic theories and progress in the research of biomedical ß-Ti alloys achieved by researchers from different fields. It focuses on a high-strength and low elastic modulus biomedical ß-Ti alloy (TLM), etc. designed by the authors. The alloy design methods, microstructural characteristics, mechanical properties, surface treatment methods and biocompatibility of the TLM alloy are discussed in detail, along with a concise description of the medical devices made from this alloy and the application examples. This book will appeal to researchers as well as students from different disciplines, including materials science, biology, medicine and engineering fields. - Fills the knowledge gap in the current research and application of newly developed biomedical ß-Ti alloys - Discusses the selection principles used for proper biomedical Ti alloys for medical and dental devices - Includes details on the technological data basis for the application of biomedical ß-Ti alloys with a focus on the TLM ß-Ti alloy
