In 1997, Statistics Canada conducted a survey on the importance of nature to Canadians covering nature-related activities during 1996. This report presents highlights of the survey regarding the involvement that Canadians have with nature through participation in a variety of nature-based activities: outdoor activities in natural areas, residential wildlife-related activities, wildlife viewing, recreational fishing, hunting, and indirect nature-related activities. In part A, results are tabulated & discussed by province and with regard to participant characteristics, numbers of participants, time spent on the activity, numbers of trips, and expenditures in those activities.
