Exodus Book I: Chapters 1-11 PDF Author: Randy Green

Book Description
The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so they can feed themselves. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. "Exodus" is the second volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. In this book Moses made his first appearance in history and went from rags to riches before he was a year old! (He sure beats Bill Gates, huh?) He spent forty years in the royal palace as kin to Pharaoh, but threw it all away by taking the side of the Hebrew slaves and their God Yahweh...which effectively reversed his worldly position from riches to rags! Moses spent the next forty years on the back side of the desert, before the Lord called him to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. The Book of Exodus records Israel's deliverance out of Egypt and their march to Mt. Sinai, where the Lord gave them the Law to govern them in the Promised Land and the tabernacle worship setup as their means to have a relationship with Him. We have the pleasure to learn what the Law of Moses meant to the Israelites (the context). From that context we draw principles behind the Law, and then we apply those principles to Christian living today. That is the approach for "Exodus" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. We teach the student the meaning of Scripture and we teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. We practice in our books the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like. We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully intelligently study the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance.

In the Beginning Was the Word: Language

In the Beginning Was the Word: Language PDF Author: Vern S. Poythress
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433522004
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 417

Book Description
Language is not only the centerpiece of our everyday lives, but it gives significance to all that we do. It also reflects and reveals our all-sustaining Creator, whose providential governance extends to the intricacies of language. Writes Vern Poythress, "God controls and specifies the meaning of each word-not only in English but in Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Italian, and every other language. When, in our modernism or postmodernism, we drop him from our account of language, our words suddenly become a prison that keeps us from the truth rather than opening doors to the truth. But we will use our words more wisely if we come to know God and understand him in relation to our language." It is such biblically informed insights that make In the Beginning Was the Word especially valuable. Words are important to us all, and this book-written at a level that presupposes no knowledge of linguistics-develops a positive, God-centered view of language. In his interaction with multiple disciplines Poythress offers plenty of application, not just for scholars and church leaders but for any Christian thinking carefully about his speech.
