When Tommy arrived in England he was six years of age. He had not learned so much as to read, and had been so much indulged, that he hardly knew the proper use of his limbs. At no great distance from Mr. Merton's seat, lived a plain and honest farmer, who, like him, had an only son, but a few months older than Tommy Merton. His name was Harry Sandford.
