Several topics will be given. Monophyly of the coccolithophorids: In well accepted taxonomic system of the haptophytes, e.g. Parke and Green 1976, coccolithophorids are placed in two orders, Isochrysidales and Coccosphaerales. We have analysed molecular phylogeny of rbcL (collaboration with Drs. Fujiwara and Minaka) and 18SrDNA, which suggest monophyly of the coccolithophorids. Isochrysis, non-coccolith-bearing haptophyte form a clade with Gephyrocapsa oceanica and Emiliania huxleyi, suggesting secondary loss of coccolith production in this genus. Taxonomic system of the Haptophyta should be reconsidered as to adapt as much as possible to phylogenetic relationships.
