His second home is on the Sacandage at Diamond Point, where he is inspired to write of life on the lake and its unique past. History and imagination are just part of the book, though, as he and his wife, Barbara, share their adventures hiking, canoeing, parachuting, skijaking, caving, white-water tubing, and scuba diving. His essays are creative, informative, and funnythey will inspire you to visit The Great Sacadaga Lake and experience it all yourself.

The Sacandaga Valley

The Sacandaga Valley PDF Author: Randy Decker

Pages : 132

Book Description
Much of the history of the Sacandaga Valley in upstate New York was lost in the early part of the 20th century with the building of a dam and the flooding of a vast area of homes, farms, and villages. Researched and compiled by historians of three Fulton County communities, The Sacandaga Valley preserves part of that history by showing the people and the life that filled the valley before it was covered with a huge new lake. For years, the fertile valley contained prosperous villages with tradesmen and factories, a rail line, and one of New York's best-known amusement centers and resorts. The Sacandaga River was a lumber-transport route and every spring, thousands of spectators lined its banks to watch the river drives. Then, in 1920, the river was chosen as the site for a dam needed to control spring flooding in cities along the Hudson River, including Albany and Cohoes. In 1930, the valley was flooded creating the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Book Description
Return to the fondly remembered glory days of an upstate New York railroad in The Fonda, Johnstown, & Gloversville Railroad: Sacandaga Route to the Adirondacks. This innovative line, a source of great interest for railroad enthusiasts, served its communities for over 100 years, using the finest and newest equipment available. Here is the chance to view it like never before, through the eyes of early photographers in many previously unpublished images. Included in this collection are the communities through which the railroad traveled along its 130 miles of operation, captured in images from the 1870s to the 1980s. Thanks to early historians with the foresight to preserve such records, we are able to return to the heyday of the railroad, when the FJ&G stopped at splendid Victorian stations and boasted some of the most advanced equipment in the country. The railroad used an extensive steam division as well as an electric division and frequently traveled to the beautiful Sacandaga Park near Northville, New York. A popular destination for thousands of tourists to the southern Adirondacks in the late 1800s, the park is one of the many FJ&G stops included in this impressive collection of images.

Book Description
She lost her child. Her husband hanged himself. It couldn't possibly get worse...right? Mystery writer, Kendra Kelly, escapes to a remote lake to heal from her incomprehensible loss. No hovering friends, no nosy neighbors. Alone with her thoughts. But is she alone? When lost items turn up in unexpected places, Kendra tells herself it's only grief-that stress makes you forget things. Then unwanted gifts appear outside her home...did concerned friends figure out where she's staying? Or do these unsettling packages point to something more sinister? It feels like someone's stalking her. Kendra wants to believe it's all paranoia, the product of her overactive imagination. After all, she's an author-she tells lies for a living. But as she leans on the same investigative skills she leveraged to research her novels, Kendra discovers her dead husband also told lies, and unlike her bestselling mysteries, his weren't fictional. Armed with his dark secrets, no longer doubting her own sanity, everyone she meets around her fog-swept retreat becomes a suspect: Is the handsome guy in her support group messing with her? The good-natured UPS driver? Or is the brother-in-law she didn't know she had responsible for all the creepiness? As harassment escalates to serious threats, Kendra must delve into the unknown, or face a tragic ending-to her life.
