But how many will die before Twelfth Night? Agatha Christie meets Clue in this delightful, tense manor house murder mystery. The annual Christmas Game is afoot at Endgame House, the Armitages' grand family home. This year's prize is to die for—deeds to the house itself—but Lily Armitage has no intention of returning. She hasn't been back to Endgame since her mother died, twenty-one years ago, and she has no intention of claiming the house that haunts her dreams. Until, that is, she receives a letter from her aunt promising that the game's riddles will give her the keys not only to Endgame, but to its darkest secrets, including the identity of her mother's murderer. Now, Lily must compete with her estranged cousins for the twelve days of Christmas. The snow is thick, the phone lines are down, and no one is getting in or out. Lily will have to keep her wits about her, because not everyone is playing fair, and there's no telling how many will die before the winner is declared. Including additional scavenger hunts for the reader, this clever murder mystery is the perfect gift for fans of classic mysteries, festive Christmas books, and armchair detective work.

Book Description
The year is 1997, and Crossley Manor finally has new owners. Having stood undisturbed for many years, the grand old house is about to be dragged into the modern age. But does a dark secret lurk in the empty rooms? Rachel Reed has a plan. She's not only going to turn Crossley Manor into a luxury hotel, she's also going to launch a series of ghost hunts. The house has a long history, and many locals tell tales of ghostly happenings on the estate. Rachel sees no harm in trying to exploit this history in an attempt to lure visitors down from London. Despite opposition from some of the locals, she's determined to bring the house's past to life. Soon, however, Rachel discovers that not all the ghosts of Crossley Manor are keen to be used in this way. There's a reason why the Crossley family faded into oblivion, and three hundred years have done nothing to calm one woman's desire for revenge. Can Rachel discover the truth about the ghosts and their fear of one particular room? Or is the secret of Crossley Manor about to claim more victims? The Ghosts of Crossley Manor is the ninth book in the Ghosts of Crowford series. Each book is a standalone story, and there's no need to read them in any particular order.

The Case for Spirit Photography

The Case for Spirit Photography PDF Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Literature
Languages : en
Pages : 160

Book Description
The publicity given to the recent attacks on Psychic Photography has been out of all proportion to their scientific value as evidence. When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle returned to Great Britain, after his successful tour in America, the controversy was in full swing. With characteristic promptitude he immediately decided to meet these negative attacks by a positive counter-attack, and this volume is the outcome of that decision. We have used the term Spirit Photography on the title-page as being the popular name by which these phenomena are known. This does not imply that either Sir Arthur or I imagine that everything supernormal must be of spirit origin. There is, undoubtedly, a broad borderland where these photographic effects may be produced from forces contained within ourselves. This merges into those higher phenomena of which many cases are here described. Those desiring fuller information on this subject are referred to Photo graphing the Invisible, by James Coates.

Haunting Experiences

Haunting Experiences PDF Author: Diane Goldstein
Publisher: University Press of Colorado
ISBN: 0874216818
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
Ghosts and other supernatural phenomena are widely represented throughout modern culture. They can be found in any number of entertainment, commercial, and other contexts, but popular media or commodified representations of ghosts can be quite different from the beliefs people hold about them, based on tradition or direct experience. Personal belief and cultural tradition on the one hand, and popular and commercial representation on the other, nevertheless continually feed each other. They frequently share space in how people think about the supernatural. In Haunting Experiences, three well-known folklorists seek to broaden the discussion of ghost lore by examining it from a variety of angles in various modern contexts. Diane E. Goldstein, Sylvia Ann Grider, and Jeannie Banks Thomas take ghosts seriously, as they draw on contemporary scholarship that emphasizes both the basis of belief in experience (rather than mere fantasy) and the usefulness of ghost stories. They look closely at the narrative role of such lore in matters such as socialization and gender. And they unravel the complex mix of mass media, commodification, and popular culture that today puts old spirits into new contexts.
