Environmental Evaluation and Global Development Institutions

Environmental Evaluation and Global Development Institutions PDF Author: Geeta Batra
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000481999
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 231

Book Description
Evaluation is increasingly important for finding sustainable solutions for the people and the planet, based on a systematic analysis of what works, for whom, and under what circumstances, and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, as they pertain to the environment. This book explores why the Global Environment Facility (GEF) invests in evaluation for accountability and learning to inform its decision-making on programming priorities, and how this leads to wiser funding decisions and better program performance on the ground. The book is based on real-life experiences of how to make evaluation count for international environmental action. Drawing upon comprehensive evaluations of the GEF, it provides unique insights from authors responsible for designing, implementing, and disseminating the findings of the evaluations. No other multilateral development or environment agency places evaluation fully at the center of their decision-making. The book outlines the trends in the global environment and the changing landscape of international environmental finance. It defines the role of the GEF and explains its institutional framework and the unique partnership that involves donor and recipient countries, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and national agencies in the developing countries. Further, it provides useful pointers to other organizations wishing to enhance evidence-based decision-making for improving their relevance, performance, and impact. The book will be most suitable for graduate-level, specialized study in a variety of disciplines such as environmental and development economics, political science, international relations, geography, sociology, and social anthropology. Guidance to facilitate monitoring and evaluation for antimicrobial resistance national action plans

Guidance to facilitate monitoring and evaluation for antimicrobial resistance national action plans PDF Author: World Health Organization
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240069763
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 28

Book Description
In 2015 the World Health Assembly endorsed the Global action plan on antimicrobial resistance (GAP-AMR) calling on countries to develop, implement and monitor national action plans on AMR. In 2019, FAO, WHO and WOAH developed a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework for the GAP-AMRto track progress towards the plan’s five global objectives, designed with a One Health perspective and reflecting the cross-sectoral nature of AMR with indicators across human and animal health, plant and food production and the environment. Countries are expected to develop an M&E plan for their NAP, tailored to their context and priorities. This includes developing indicators appropriate to the country’s own circumstances, aligned with the proposed core indicators of the GAP-AMR M&E framework, as far as possible. This country M&E guidance document was developed as a reference for countries to support the development and delivery of AMR NAPs. It provides assistance on how to establish an M&E plan for their AMR NAP, building on existing national reporting systems and recommended indicators from the GAP-AMR M&E framework.

Terminal evaluation of the areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) Tuna project, part of the "Global sustainable fisheries management and biodiversity conservation in ABNJ"

Terminal evaluation of the areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) Tuna project, part of the Author: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Publisher: Food & Agriculture Org.
ISBN: 9251333068
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 106

Book Description
The marine areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) comprise 40 percent of the earth’s surface, covering 64 percent of the surface of the ocean and 95 percent of its volume. The Common Oceans ABNJ Programme (2014-2019) was implemented by FAO as a concerted effort to bring stakeholders to work together to manage and conserve the world’s common oceans. The ABNJ Tuna project, one component of the Common Oceans ABNJ Programme, promoted important transformational changes in the management practices of tuna fisheries, improving their sustainability, strengthening Marine Stewardship Council capabilities of tuna regional fisheries management organizations (t-RFMOs) and their members, and significantly reducing their impact on biodiversity. The project generated knowledge but lacked a structured mechanism and strategy to harvest and disseminate it. Similarly to the programme level evaluation report, the programmatic approach component, the partnership framework, as well as how to foster synergies among projects and capitalization of knowledge management should be strengthened.

Terminal evaluation of the project "Sustainable management of mountainous forest and land resources under climate change conditions"

Terminal evaluation of the project Author: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Publisher: Food & Agriculture Org.
ISBN: 9251357048
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 102

Book Description
The project was designed to address the following interlinked barriers preventing sustainable land and forest management outcomes and building resilience to climate change in Kyrgyz mountain ecosystems: inadequate legal framework for sustainable forest and land management, inadequate land tenure reforms, outdated approaches to sustainable forest and land management, and limited capacity of local institutions. The project’s overall objective is to enhance the enabling environment in the forestry and agricultural sectors and sustain the flow of ecosystem services, including enhancement of carbon stocks in forests and agro-ecosystems through the sustainable management and enhanced productivity of mountainous silvo-agro-pastoral ecosystems, and to improve productivity and mountain livelihoods in the Kyrgyz Republic. Overall, the evaluation rated the project as “moderately satisfactory”, with several examples of positive new approaches introduced by the project into forestry, agriculture and pasture management. The evaluation included specific recommendations not only to FAO, but also to the national forestry service. One of the innovative recommendations is to revisit the project sites in five to ten years to check certain success factors, such as the tree survival rates.
