He had one known son, August (b. 1839) by his first wife. He married Henriette Albrecht (1819-1878), daughter of Carl Wilhelm Albrecht, in 1848. They had six children. They emigrated in 1851 and settled in Ohio. He married Theresa Margaret Schneider in 1881. They had three children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio, Kentucky and Kansas.
