In this feeling the exercises of which this little book is a report may be said to have had their beginning. Plans began to assume definite form in July, 1905, when a joint meeting of the standing committees of the Church and Society voted to recommend that the anniversary be observed by appropriate public ser vices. Later, formal action was taken by the Church and the conduct of the celebration was placed in charge of the two committees just referred to.
