The Prince and the Delida The Prince and the Peasant

The Prince and the Delida The Prince and the Peasant PDF Author: Meowstopheles
Publisher: Fulton Books, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 723

Book Description
In a mystical world still recovering from a great war, where generations of countless species suffered, a very pretty, albeit apathetic, child prince is haunted by a malicious shadow monster and unable to connect with those around him. As the young prince slowly grows, his eccentric father, the immature king, devises a plan to get his son a friend, and a local festival competition lands a peasant boy the grand prize of the prince himself. The peasant boy, Rar, has struggles of his own, being only half human in a society of humans. While being constantly surrounded by those who hate him for being a delida halfling, Rar is shocked, disappointed, and angry when he finds out that his "marvelous prize" is the prince. Rar's worries of being the prince's pet quickly fade after he discovers that the cold-seeming prince cares a lot more than he seems, and the two quickly become best friends. Prince Lucius and Rar have lots of fun together, even with the Shadow Monster clinging to the prince, and a mysterious Dark Figure following the two around. The Dark Figure appears everywhere and, although more often than not is unseen and unheard by the two boys, seems to have more than a hand involved with the world around them. After a massive festering flesh monster attacks, Rar starts to accept the fact that even though Prince Lucius is a boy, he still has feelings for him. But how do you tell your best friend you like them? Especially when everyone knows that princes like princesses, not peasant boys? Then two princes from a neighboring kingdom visit Prince Lucius; is Rar being replaced? With social structures, judgmental jesters, worried mothers, and an endlessly disappearing-reappearing Dark Figure, will the two friends manage to stay friends or possibly even find love within their friendship, or will the two end up meeting a fate far worse than death?

The Unfolding of The Seasons

The Unfolding of The Seasons PDF Author: Ralph Cohen
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000505626
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 205

Book Description
First published in 1970, The Unfolding of The Seasons provides an interpretation and evaluation of James Thomson’s poem The Seasons. Professor Cohen urges its reconsideration as a major Augustan poem, arguing that Thomson’s unity, diction and thought combine with a conception of man, nature and God which is poetically tenable and distinctive. The case for The Seasons as an important work of art depends upon its effectiveness as a moving vision of human experience, and Professor Cohen believes that many critics have not felt this effectiveness because they have misconceived Thomson’s vision and misunderstood his idiom. His study aims to persuade them to return to the poem and to examine it within the context of an Augustan tradition. Professor Cohen shows that Thomson’s great achievement is to have fashioned a conception which, by bringing nature to the forefront of his poem, became a new poetic way of defining human experience. Thomson was not the first nature poet in English, but he was the first to provide an effective idiom in which science, orthodox religion, natural description, and classical allusions blended to describe the glory, baseness and uncertainty of man’s earthly environment, holding forth the hope of heavenly love and wisdom. This study shows that Thomson found a personal idiom by means of which he created an artistic vision. It will appeal to those with an interest in English literature and in philosophy.

Reading the Entrails

Reading the Entrails PDF Author: Norman Charles Conrad
Publisher: University of Calgary Press
ISBN: 1552380122
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 216

Book Description
Before the Fall of Imperial Rome, priests cast the internal organs of sacrificial animals on temple floors, claiming to be able to divine the future from these entrails. By probing the remains of Alberta's past sacrifices -- reading her entrails -- Norman Conrad believes that we might dimly see at apparition of Alberta's future. This controversial book vividly portrays the history of land and life in Alberta, from the Ice Ages to the present. Making no apology for his criticism of government, regulators and large corporations, Norman Conrad makes a strident plea for Alberta's dangerously imperiled environment and presents a model that can be applied anywhere.

Burning the Ice

Burning the Ice PDF Author: Laura J. Mixon
Publisher: Macmillan
ISBN: 9780312869038
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 552

Book Description
More than a hundred years after a small band of humans stole an antimatter-fueled starship and headed away at near-lightspeed, a colony of those renegades' descendants are now struggling to survive on Brimstone, a barely-habitable world of ice and bitter cold four dozen light-years from Earth. In the long run, they hope to slowly terraform Brimstone, making it, if not Earthlike, at least bearable. In the short run-well, life is hard, and everyone lives in everyone else's laps. Not easy for anyone. Particularly hard if, like Manda, you just aren't cut out to get along with others in conditions of constant crowding and zero privacy. Most people wouldn't be eager to get away from the main colony and work on a scientific project in the howling frozen wastes. For Manda, it's a deliverance. But news of the intelligent life she discovers in Brimstone's depths will change everything-if she can bring the news back to her fellows alive. For, it turns out, there are political plots and counterplots still active in the colony, dangerous twists tracing back to Earth itself...and outward to the stars.

Book Description
Winter's love is blood and chaos...but fire isn't all that smolders at Summer's heart. To claim Bran forever, Macsen has begun the ancient ritual of sidhe courtship—but such a rite is a trial in more ways than one. Tradition requires that Macsen seek Bran's favor in his own country, and a Summer courtship is teasing and promising. More than that, Summer's Queen will come between Macsen and her son however she can. Despite his mother's disapproval, Bran's will is bent to the same purpose as Macsen's—the achievement of four proofs of love, proofs that only Bran can determine or acknowledge. One step at a time, they come closer to a day when nothing will be able to separate them—but a familiar foe is more than willing to try. In the mortal world, the year has continued to pass without a hint of green. The Green King has prevented the spring, and thus all seasons but winter. Still, it's Macsen whom Dealla blames, and all her plans for violent retribution are directed at him. Failure may cost her everything, but that is a price she has long been willing to pay. In the wake of her invasion, Macsen is left with a dilemma that might not be easy to solve. Love, or vengeance—which should he choose? Can they live together in the same heart?

Finite Automata

Finite Automata PDF Author: A. de Vries
Publisher: Elsevier Science
ISBN:
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 540

Book Description
This dictionary supplies associations which have been evoked by certain words, signs, etc. in Western civilization in the past, and which may float to the surface again tomorrow; for however 'daringly new' a modern use of imagery may look, it generally appears to have roots in what has been said and done in the past. No fine distinctions have been made between symbols (in the limited sense), allegories, metaphors, signs, types, images, etc. (not to mention 'ascending' and 'descending' symbols), since such subtle distinctions, however sensible from a scientific point of view, are useless to a person struggling with the deeper comprehension (and thus appreciation) of a particular 'symbol'.
