Excerpt from The Farm Journal Directory of Ashland County, Ohio, 1915: With a Complete Road Map of the County Ashland County, with a population of 5 and farms, both according to the census figures of 1910, is distinctly a rural county. More than 95 per cent. Of all the land of the county is in farms. These farms, however, are few of them very large, and almost none, of them very small. There are, in fact, only 245 farms in the entire county containing over 260 acres each, and a total of only 148 (about 5% per cent.) less than 10 acres each. It is easy to understand the reason why there are no really large farms in Ashland County, if it is taken into consideration that farms must be Operated by men of voting age, outside the city of Ashland.
