Book Description
Excerpt from Farm Income Situation, Vol. 194: April 1964 Farm production expenses, which have risen each year since 1953, will probably continue upward in 196a. Generally higher prices and increased inputs of some of the more important production items will probably combine to increase production expenses about $500 million above the 1963 level of billion. Expenditures for purchased feed and livestock are expected to increase because of an increase in prices paid for feed and greater numbers of animal units bought. Fertilizer prices this year are expected to hold firm at 1963 levels, but the quantity of fertilizer used is expected to increase. The hired farm labor bill may be close to that of last year as the number of hired workers continues to decline and farm wage rates rise again. Tax and interest outlays will be up again this year; charges per acre for taxes and interest are running about 5 and 12 percent, respectively, above a year earlier.
