Visions of Invasion

Visions of Invasion PDF Author: Michael Lechuga
Publisher: Univ. Press of Mississippi
ISBN: 1496844092
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 197

Book Description
Visions of Invasion: Alien Affects, Cinema, and Citizenship in Settler Colonies explores how the US government mobilizes media and surveillance technologies to operate a highly networked, multidimensional system for controlling migrants. Author Michael Lechuga focuses on three arenas where a citizenship control assemblage manufactures alienhood: Hollywood extraterrestrial invasion film, federal antimigration and border security legislation, and various immigration enforcement protocols implemented along the Mexico–United States border. Building on rhetorical studies, settler colonial studies, and media studies, Visions of Invasion offers a glimpse at how the processes of alien-making contribute to an ongoing settler colonial project in the US. Lechuga demonstrates that popular films—The War of the Worlds, Predator, Men in Black, and more—participate in the production of migrants as subjective terrorists, felons, and other noncitizen personae vilified in public discourse. Beyond just tracing how alien invasion narratives circulate in popular media, Lechuga describes how the logics motivating early US colonists materialize in both the US’s citizenship control policy and in some of the country’s most popular texts. Beneath each of the film franchises and antimigrant political expressions described in Visions of Invasion lies an anxious colonial logic in which the settler way of life is seemingly threated by false narratives of imminent invasion from abroad. The volume offers a deep dive into how the rhetorical figure of the alien has been manufactured as a political subjectivity, one that plays out the anxieties, guilts, and fears of colonialism in today’s science fiction landscape.

Book Description
New Realities of the Twenty-first Century, Part 1 by Prophet Wildman The psychic/parapsychic experience in the supernatural is one that is not readily understood or accepted by the masses. After enjoying the gift of psychic future predictive awareness for more than fifty years, Prophet Wildman had a deep understanding of the psychic and parapsychic experience. However, it wasn’t until 2008 when he began receiving Holy subject (Tribulation) awareness as a precognitive psychic medium that he really began to delve deeper into this relatively unknown subject and explore psychic and parapsychic experiences as they related to the supernatural and Christianity. Prophet Wildman wows his readers with first-hand experiences, both from the perspective of being Christian and of being a psychic medium, while also providing a comprehensive dissection and decoding of the Tribulation event as it relates to the prophecy. Wildman’s deeply personal experiences, along with factual statements and others’ first-hand experiences, provide the reader with a comprehensive read that will strengthen one’s faith in Christ and Christianity, while opening up rarely explored doors to the supernatural, psychic and parapsychic worlds. Explore the unknown with Prophet Wildman as he weaves his unwavering Christian beliefs with everything from extraterrestrials and ultraterrestrials to vampires, U.F.Os, and government cover-ups. An open mind and a strong religious conviction are all that’s needed to begin searching and discovering some of the biggest mysteries of our time.

The Latinx Files

The Latinx Files PDF Author: Matthew David Goodwin
Publisher: Rutgers University Press
ISBN: 1978815107
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 167

Book Description
In The Latinx Files, Matthew David Goodwin traces how Latinx science fiction writers are reclaiming the space alien from its xenophobic legacy in the science fiction genre. The book argues that the space alien is a vital Latinx figure preserving Latinx cultures by activating the myriad possible constructions of the space alien to represent race and migration in the popular imagination. The works discussed in this book, including those of H.G. Wells, Gloria Anzaldúa, Junot Diaz, André M. Carrington, and many others, often explicitly reject the derogatory correlation of the space alien and Latinxs, while at other times, they contain space aliens that function as a source of either enlightenment or horror for Latinx communities. Throughout this nuanced analysis, The Latinx Files demonstrates how the character of the space alien has been significant to Latinx communities and has great potential for future writers and artists.

Biblical Interpretation in Ancient Israel

Biblical Interpretation in Ancient Israel PDF Author: Michael Fishbane
Publisher: Clarendon Press
ISBN: 0191520357
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 636

Book Description
First published in hardback in August 1985, Professor Fishbane's book offers the first comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of textual analysis in ancient Israel. It explores the rich tradition of exegesis prior to the development of biblical interpretation in early classical Judaism and the earliest Christian communities, and examines four main categories of exegesis: scribal, legal, aggadic, and mantological. In studying this subject, it emerges that the Hebrew Bible is not only the foundation document for the exegetical culture of Judaism and Christianity, but an exegetical work in its own right. Professor Fishbane, who has added new material in appendices to this paperback edition, has been awarded three major prizes for this work: the National Jewish Book Award 1986, the Biblical Archaeological Society 1986 Publication Award, and the Kenneth B. Smilen Literary Award.
