The Essence of Joy

The Essence of Joy PDF Author: Shirley Melnick Kelly
Publisher: Emerge Publishing LLC
ISBN: 9781943127924
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
Having known and followed the leading of the Lord Jesus for over forty years, I have discovered true joy. Attaining to the precepts and concepts of joy will bring a calmness of mind and heart; a hope, contentment, and confidence you never had before. One of the many facets of the Holy Spirit is joy. How beautiful is the fact that when the character and nature of God are alive in a believer, there is no spiritual law that can be binding upon that person? When you are walking in the Spirit, you will not allow the flesh to dictate what you do! You are truly walking in the freedom Jesus promised you. Maybe you have questions like I did: So, what exactly is JOY? Where is its origin? What does it encompass? How is it expressed? How can I make it mine? You can find those answers and more as you delve into the following pages of this book and learn how to experience joy in your life. Why twenty-one chapters? Experts say it takes twenty-one days to form a new habit. By reading one chapter a day for the next twenty-one days, you will form a new opinion of the definition of the word joy based on the truth of God's Word. And, with that understanding, you will see your life from a new perspective and experience the essence of joy.

The Virtues of Happiness

The Virtues of Happiness PDF Author: Paul Bloomfield
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0190612002
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
As children, we learn life is unfair: bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. So, it is natural to ask, "Why play fairly in an unfair world? If being immoral will get you what you want and you know you can't get caught, why not do it?" The answers, as argued herein, begin by rejecting the idea that morality and happiness are at odds with one another. From this point of view, we can see how immorality undermines its perpetrator's happiness: self-respect is necessary for happiness, and immorality undermines self-respect. As we see how our self-respect is conditional upon how we respect others, we learn to evaluate and value ourselves, and others, appropriately. The central thesis is the result of combining the ancient Greek conception of happiness (eudaimonia) with a modern conception of self-respect. We become happy, we life the best life we can, only by becoming virtuous: by being as courageous, just, temperate, and wise as can be. These are the virtues of happiness. This book explains why it is bad to be bad and good to be good, and what happens to people's values as their practical rationality develops.

"Happiness: The Essence of Your Being" is a window into Existence, or God. This book helps us to understand the ways of Reality, in turn allowing us to let go into whatever is happening. When we can genuinely accept all that is happening and all we are thinking and feeling, we live a happy life of fun and excitement. This book is a collection of one-on-one student sittings with Sharam, a contemporary spiritual master and mystic. It gives readers a "fly on the wall" perspective of how an enlightened being responds to the everyday issues of his students' lives in relation to their spiritual growth. As Sharam maneuvers through the arguments of the mind and ego, we see how the understandings revealed by a master cause the ego-mind to gradually release its grip on us. This transformation opens the door to the love and happiness humanity yearns for.
