The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is one of the four regional breeds of Sennenhunde-type dogs that originate from the Swiss Alps. The name 'Sennenhunde' comes from the Swiss word 'Senn' which refers to the herders from the Appenzell region in Switzerland. The breed was originally developed to be both a cattle herding dog and a flock guardian.
