Over the last two decades, the implementation of inclusive schooling has increased significantly in European countries and worldwide. According to empirical evidence, one of the most important success factors in implementing inclusive schooling are the attitudes of the actors involved. Previous studies have shown that positive attitudes towards inclusive schooling are not only a condition for success regarding the implementation, but also an important outcome variable of inclusive education. The present study provides empirical insights into the attitudes towards students with learning disabilities and behavioral disorders. A study called ATIS-STEP (Attitudes Towards Inclusive Schooling - Students', TEachers' and Parents' Attitudes) was conducted in the school year 2016/17 in 48 inclusive classrooms in Austria. It is the first study to provide longitudinal data that examines the attitudes of the three different stakeholder groups: students, teachers and parents. Furthermore, the interdependency of the attitudes of the three groups, as well as the influence of previous contact experience on the attitudes are analyzed and discussed. This study explores the impacts of inclusive education practices in United States public schools from the perspective of students who receive these services. Majority of the literature on inclusive education practices is written by people who have not experienced special education services in the United States. Students targeted were from public schools in Washington state between the ages of 14 and 21. It is hypothesized that the study will provide an increase for students with disabilities to advocate for their own education and engage in self-advocacy. Photovoice is a participatory research approach that has participants take pictures to illustrate the research question that can later be supplemented by short stories or captions by the participants. Students participating were able to talk with each other about the Photovoice process, common themes they found in each other's pictures and captions, and brainstorm ways to target local representatives and policy-makers. Data collection was strengthened by surveys to gather more specific information on people's perceptions of inclusion and special education services. Themes identified include school experiences, employment and independent living, and stereotypes. Concepts from the Social Model of Disability and Dis/ability Critical Race Theory were used to further highlight student experiences. This study contributes to social work practice by providing an opportunity for students with disabilities to share their own perspectives and experiences within the public education system. This work will allow an opportunity for students with disabilities to become the principle speaker on special education reform.

Inclusive education in public schools is intended for all students, regardless of their ability, race, documentation status, or gender. Although laws and policies have shifted to ensure that children are allowed a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment, teachers do not always have the adequate training to accommodate their students' needs, resulting in low teacher morale. Additionally, there is a teacher shortage crisis (Darling-Hammond, 2010) which has led to declining enrollment in teacher preparation programs causing local education agencies to be unable to fill certain positions (Carver-Thomas & Darling-Hammond, 2017). To mitigate this phenomenon, this qualitative study explored how a teacher preparation program collaborated with local school district to empower veteran teachers to work with beginning teachers. The present study unravels the complexities associated with inclusive education and mentorship. Taking the Inclusive Bioecological Model (Anderson, Boyle, & Deppeler, 2014) into account, an Expanded Inclusive Bioecological Model was developed to better understand the contextual factors that could potentially influence teachers' ability to meet the needs of all their students. Various data, including interviews, focus groups, and a survey, were collected in an earlier phase and were analyzed. The findings highlight how the macrosystem impacts the proximal processes between people, power, the context, and time. The lessons from this iteration of the project could serve as a conceptualization of what veteran teachers need and would like to successfully implement inclusive evidence-based practices. School districts and universities should continue to look at ways to collaborate and provide ongoing support for teachers at various phases of their careers. This project was an example of the positive impact that partnerships could have teachers' perceptions about collaborating and revisiting their own praxis.
