Urban Travel Patterns for Hospitals, Universities, Office Buildings, and Capitols

Urban Travel Patterns for Hospitals, Universities, Office Buildings, and Capitols PDF Author: Louis E. Keefer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 156

Book Description
Travel patterns were studied for hospitals, colleges and universities, office buildings, and state capitol complexes. The analyses include trip generation, trip distribution, and general trip characteristics such as trip purpose and mode of travel. Data were obtained from many origin-and-destination studies conducted during recent years for urban transportation planning processes. Trips to and from specific types of land use were studied. The trip generation characteristics are related to various quantifiable factors for each specific land use through the use of multiple regression analyses.

Highway Noise; a Design Guide for Highway Engineers

Highway Noise; a Design Guide for Highway Engineers PDF Author: Bolt, Beranek, and Newman
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Roads
Languages : en
Pages : 840

Book Description
Various methods of assessing noise, loudness, and noise annoyance are reviewed and explained; sources, types, and intensities of traffic noise are noted; typical means of abatement and attenuation are described; design criteria for various land uses ranging from low-density to industrial are suggested and compared with the results of previous BBN and British systems for predicting annoyance and complaint; and a design guide for predicting traffic noise, capable of being programmed for batch and on-line computer applications, is presented in form suitable for use as a working tool. A flow diagram describes the interrelationships of elements in the traffic noise prediction methodology, and each element is discussed in detail in the text. The text is presented of a tape recording that takes the listener through a series of traffic situations, with such variables as traffic distance, flow velocity, distance, outdoors and indoors, and presence or absence of absorbers and attenuators.

Book Description
In part I, observations on the traffic stream made under two intensities of artifical illumination and under daylight conditions are studied along with an analysis of the accident rate under day and night conditions over a 5 year period. Part II centers upon the individual driver and his performance in controlling his vehicle under different nighttime illumination levels. The subjects drove an instrumented vehicle equipped with an oscillograph recorder and sensors for velocity, steering, and gas pedal movements. Part III deals with the instrumentation of the vehicle. Part IV pertains to the area of driver apprehension, the effects of illumination change upon visual phenomena and driver responses and the effects upon traffic flow, driver behavior, and accidents.
