Book Description
Excerpt from Economy Cook Book This book is designed to take the place among recipe books that the Ford does among automobiles. It is simple, practical, economical. But back of any recipe book must come intelligent planning of the meals, for at best recipes can only be the method of making foods palatable. Much depends upon arranging menus to pro mote the greatest degree of growth and health. In the average family which consists of adults and children both groups must be considered, for upon the proper feeding of its future citizens depends the fu ture power of our Nation. Children require more food of the body-building class than grown people; more food containing protein, as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and milk, which is most important of all. If fresh milk is not available condensed or evaporated milk should be substituted. Adults after forty require little meat. Once a day is often more than enough. Much acute indigestion, auto-intoxication, etc., would be avoided by a diet con sisting principally of meat substitutes, vegetables, and lighter foods. Of course those who lead a sedentary life require less substantial food and a. Smaller quantity of it than those who are engaged in muscular occupa tion. And with the preper planning should go regularity of serving, the same meals at the same time each day, the lighter meal at night, thorough mastication of the food, a cheerful atmosphere. Book Description
Excerpt from The Ideal Cookery Book: Economy, Wealth and Comfort in the Household As a general rule, I do not believe in prefaces, but feel ing bound to submit to the time-honored custom, I am free to confess that, had I known the labor necessary to produce a first-class cookery book, I should hardly have had the resolution to commence it. However, I have done my utmost to make it useful and acceptable. The recipes have been most carefully compiled, and valuable assistance has been rendered me by friends in France, Germany, Great Britain and Canada, as well as in the United States, to all of Whom I render my most sincere thanks. I also desire to record my grateful appreciation of the immense success my cookery book has met with. The number of orders already received for it convinces me that I have supplied a real want, and that my book Will help my sisters to lighten their toil and gladden the hearts of their families. Economy in the Kitchen (Classic Reprint)
Author: J. F. Breazeale
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780484452885
Category : House & Home
Languages : en
Pages : 114
Book Description
Excerpt from Economy in the Kitchen It is with a feeling of apology that I use the term I so often, but in a work of this kind it is almost impossible to omit this form of expression. In the duties of our household I am not chief coo by any means. My wife is mistress of her kitchen, and in most cases I am but a helper. She has been the prime mover in this work, and we have agreed in everything except in some small details. She insists upon using a dish rag, while I think that such an article should be prohibited by law; she thinks that the harder water boils the hotter it gets, while I do not; but beyond such small differences of Opinion we have worked together harmoniously, and the reader can take it that the term I in the majority of cases is meant to mean we. I might add that I practice what I preach. I can go into a kitchen and cook as complete a dinner as almost any woman. I can make good bread, can vegetables, preserve fruits, make good butter, prepare all kinds of salads, or make mayonnaise dressing, and my little chil dren eat my cooking in preference to their mother's. Such work is my recreation and I try to do it with the same cleanliness and system that I use in making a chemical analysis. And last but not least, I can wash up the dishes and keep the kitchen clean generally. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
