Some Changes in the Bottom Fauna of Green Bay, Lake Michigan from 1952 to 1969
Author: Richard Howmiller
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aquatic invertebrates
Languages : en
Pages : 58
Book Description
Bottom samples were collected in lower and middle Green Bay in May 1969 on the same date, at the same 27 stations, and using the same methods as a 1952 survey. In 1969 there were fewer Oligochaeta and Chironomidae in the vicinity of the Fox River mouth. Elsewhere in the lower and middle bay oligochaetes and midge larvae were more abundant than in 1952 but most other benthic invertebrates were less abundant. The observed changes are interpreted as indicative of greater pollution and increased eutrophication during the intervening 17 years.
