Book Description
This synthesis will be of interest to highway administrators; pavement management system (PMS), maintenance, and computer engineers; and technologists involved with data collection and computer programming for the purposes of a PMS. This synthesis describes the state of the practice with respect to pavement management methodologies to select projects and recommend preservation treatments. This report of the Transportation Research Board also describes the predominant pavement management methodologies being used by U.S. state and Canadian provincial transportation agencies; provides a general description of each methodology; and summarizes the requirements, benefits, hindrances, and constraints associated with each. It includes a review of domestic literature and a survey of current practices in North America. In addition, case studies are included to illustrate the use of these methodologies within transportation agencies. Operational and soon-to-be implemented technologies are also discussed, and an extensive bibliography is provided for further reference.

Pavement Asset Management
Author: Ralph Haas
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119038707
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 432
Book Description
Comprehensive and practical, Pavement Asset Management provides an essential resource for educators, students and those in public agencies and consultancies who are directly responsible for managing road and airport pavements. The book is comprehensive in the integration of activities that go into having safe and cost-effective pavements using the best technologies and management processes available. This is accomplished in seven major parts, and 42 component chapters, ranging from the evolution of pavement management to date requirements to determining needs and priority programming of rehabilitation and maintenance, followed by structural design and economic analysis, implementation of pavement management systems, basic features of working systems and finally by a part on looking ahead. The most current methodologies and practical applications of managing pavements are described in this one-of-a-kind book. Real world up-to-date examples are provided, as well as an extensive list of references for each part.

Pavement Management for Airports, Roads, and Parking Lots
Author: M.Y. Shahin
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9780412992018
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 450
Book Description
Emphasizing sound, cost-effective management rather than emergency repairs, this comprehensive volume offers practical guidelines on evaluating and managing pavements for airports, roads, and parking lots. The author focuses on the implementation and maintenance of successful management strategies for both network and project levels, with repair techniques also described . Detailed chapters: 1) outline step-by-step procedures for project and network level pavement management 2) illustrate effective cost analysis and budget planning for pavement maintenance 3) guide the reader in the selection and use of non-destructive deflection, roughness measurement, and friction measurement equipment 4) present state-of-the-art pavement rehabilitation and condition prediction techniques 5) demonstrates the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) procedure for airfields and surfaced and unsurfaced roads. Extensive appendices serve as a field manual for identifying all types of pavement distress and their causes, and hundred of photographs facilitate accurate pavement evaluation. Civil and pavement engineers will find complete information on pavement inspection, evaluation, and management in this indispensable reference.

Development and Implementation of Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Pavement Management System (PMS)
Author: Sameh Zaghloul
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Pavements
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has been one of the pioneering states in the development and implementation of Pavement Management System (PMS). Since the early 1980's, ADOT has been using pavement management tools to manage, maintain and preserve Arizona's highway network. ADOT's PMS tools were originally based on a probabilistic approach for modeling the pavement performance, which were adequate for the original ADOT requirements. Recently, ADOT has decided to expand the use of the PMS tools to also support the pavement maintenance operations. This required a change in the existing ADOT's PMS tools, which prompted a need to move to a different pavement management software. Subsequently, ADOT selected Stantec's Highway Pavement Management Application (HPMA) software to replace its pavement management system, and retained Stantec's services for structuring, data loading, model development, and implementing the HPMA. HPMA is a single software application that provides full database management and analysis capabilities required by the two types of users (PMS and Maintenance). The HPMA provides capability for users to work at both the detailed highway level and the aggregated section level. Also it provides a wide variety of analysis capabilities, including corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and rehabilitation analysis. This report documents the approach used to achieve the goals of this project including the customization of the HPMA to address ADOT requirements, the development of the analysis models, which are based on ADOT historic performance data, and the implementation of these analysis models in conducting a statewide analysis.
