Book Description
A rapid, accurate, precise, and cost-effective method is described for the determination of uranium, molybdenum, and arsenic in activated carbon. Preparation of sample is minimal, involving only fine grinding of the carbon, the addition of a diluent and a wax-polystyrene binder, and pelletization of the resulting material. The briquettes are analysed with a fully automated X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, corrections being made for spectral-line overlap and background factors. The lower limit of detection was 1,5, 2,1, and 2,0 ug/g for U3O8, molybdenum, and arsenic respectively. The relative standard deviation did not exceed 0,016 for U3O8 up to 1250 ug/g, 0,068 for molybdenum up to 12,4 per cent, and 0,045 for arsenic up to 1,21 per cent. The accuracy of the method compares favourably with that of other methods.

Analytical Chemistry of Zirconium and Hafnium
Author: Anil K. Mukherji
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483184307
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 296
Book Description
Analytical Chemistry of Zirconium and Hafnium compiles literature on the characterization and analysis of zirconium and hafnium. Various methods in studying the properties of the featured elements are presented in this book. This book also discusses the aqueous solutions of zirconium and hafnium. It then explains the methods such as dissolution of ores and alloys, detection and identification, and gravimetric determinations. This text further examines the titrimetric, electrometric, and absorptiometric methods, as well as methods of separations using ion-exchange and using solvent extraction, along with separation of hafnium from zirconium. The latter part of this text presents methods such as spectrographic analyses, X-ray analyses, and neutron activation analysis and separation of tracers. This book will come in handy for chemists and chemistry students, as well as for others interested in studying zirconium and hafnium.
