A Robust Detection Scheme with Fixed Thresholds for Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals

A Robust Detection Scheme with Fixed Thresholds for Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals PDF Author: J. Krishnamurthy
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 88

Book Description
A class of Robust Detection Schemes for the detection of a class of time varying signals in additive disturbance are proposed and analyzed and their performance is evaluated. The proposed detection schemes are applicable for the detection of both binary and M-ary Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals. Two detection schemes are proposed for solving the detection problem where the samples of the received signal contain pure signal components that are all unequal. These detection schemes are designated as nonparametric detection scheme and Detection Scheme with Fixed Thresholds (DSFT). The performance of these detectors is compared with that of the Least Squares Detector. It is observed that the proposed detection schemes are robust and generally lead to lower probability of error. The asymptotic relative efficiency for the detectors is shown to be greater than unity under a variety of noise conditions. The performance of the proposed detectors is immune to intersymbol interference if it is assumed that the intersymbol interference can be replaced by an unknown constant. These detectors lead to other advantages such as being unaffected by unknown amounts of DC drifts or changes in the mean values of the noise. (Author).

Practical Digital Wireless Signals

Practical Digital Wireless Signals PDF Author: Earl McCune
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139484737
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 435

Book Description
Do you need to know what signal type to select for a wireless application? Quickly develop a useful expertise in digital modulation with this practical guide, based on the author's experience of over thirty years in industrial design. You will understand the physical meaning behind the mathematics of wireless signals and learn the intricacies and tradeoffs in signal selection and design. Six modulation families and twelve modulation types are covered in depth, together with a quantitative ranking of relative cost incurred to implement any of twelve modulation types. Extensive discussions of the Shannon Limit, Nyquist filtering, efficiency measures and signal-to-noise measures are provided, radio wave propagation and antennas, multiple access techniques, and signal coding principles are all covered, and spread spectrum and wireless system operation requirements are presented.

A Robust Detection Scheme with Learning of Thresholds for Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals

A Robust Detection Scheme with Learning of Thresholds for Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals PDF Author: J. Krishnamurthy

Book Description
A robust detection scheme, called Detection Scheme with Learning of Thresholds (DSLT), for the detection of M-ary Amplitude Shift Keyed Signals is proposed and analyzed. It is shown that DSLT performs better (in the sense of lower probability of error) than the Detection Scheme with Fixed Thresholds. The improvement in performance is due to the fact that DSLT assumes a priori information regarding the approximate form of noise distribution, unlike DSFT. The performance of DSLT is independent of the mean value of the noise, unknown amounts of DC drifts and intersymbol interference if it can be assumed that the intersymbol interference can be replaced by an unknown constant. Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems

Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems PDF Author: Richard W. Middlestead
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119011841
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 828

Book Description
This book uses a practical approach in the application of theoretical concepts to digital communications in the design of software defined radio modems. This book discusses the design, implementation and performance verification of waveforms and algorithms appropriate for digital data modulation and demodulation in modern communication systems. Using a building-block approach, the author provides an introductory to the advanced understanding of acquisition and data detection using source and executable simulation code to validate the communication system performance with respect to theory and design specifications. The author focuses on theoretical analysis, algorithm design, firmware and software designs and subsystem and system testing. This book treats system designs with a variety of channel characteristics from very low to optical frequencies. This book offers system analysis and subsystem implementation options for acquisition and data detection appropriate to the channel conditions and system specifications, and provides test methods for demonstrating system performance. This book also: Outlines fundamental system requirements and related analysis that must be established prior to a detailed subsystem design Includes many examples that highlight various analytical solutions and case studies that characterize various system performance measures Discusses various aspects of atmospheric propagation using the spherical 4/3 effective earth radius model Examines Ionospheric propagation and uses the Rayleigh fading channel to evaluate link performance using several robust waveform modulations Contains end-of-chapter problems, allowing the reader to further engage with the text Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems is a great resource for communication-system and digital signal processing engineers and students looking for in-depth theory as well as practical implementations.

Robust Detection Schemes for Frequency Shift Keyed and Phase Shift Keyed Signals

Robust Detection Schemes for Frequency Shift Keyed and Phase Shift Keyed Signals PDF Author: J. Krishnamurthy
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 101

Book Description
Two Robust Detection Schemes for the detection of a class of time varying signals in additive disturbance are proposed and analyzed and their performance is evaluated. The proposed detection schemes, called Robust Detection Scheme I (RDSI) and Robust Detection Scheme II (RDSII) are applicable when the samples of the received signal or a filtered version of the received signal contain pure signal components that are all equal. It is shown that both binary and M-ary Phase Shift Keyed and Frequency Shift Keyed Signals can be detected by using RDSI and RDSII. The performance of the detectors is compared with that of the Mean and Sign detectors. It is observed that the proposed detectors generally lead to lower probability of error, except when the Mean and the Sign detectors are the Maximum Likelihood detectors. Analytical expressions for the average probability of error, the asymptotic relative efficiency and the asymptotic efficiency are derived and it is shown that the proposed detectors are superior or equivalent to the Sign detector and superior to the Mean detector in nongaussian noise.
