The Sufficiency and Defects of the English Communion Office (Classic Reprint)

The Sufficiency and Defects of the English Communion Office (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: A. G. Walpole Sayer
Publisher: CUP Archive
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 172

Book Description
Excerpt from The Sufficiency and Defects of the English Communion Office HE object which led to the enterprise of this subject was essentially practical. Considerable outcry had been raised against the interpolation into the service by the Celebrant of parts of the Unreformed Office. The outcry interpreted this action as throwing doubt or discredit on the Office of our Church. And this interpretation is justified by the open avowals of many who are addicted to this practice. They allege defect or deficiency in our Office. Others, indeed, without such allegation or conscious admission, defend their interpolations as conducing to greater fulness or richness. The object of this work in part'is to attempt to disprove the charges of insufficiency and to show the redundancy of such interpolations. The nature of the interpolations in View has been already defined. There is no reference to any private1 intercessions or devo tions of the Celebrant, but to the direct interpolation of portions of other Offices. Book Description
Excerpt from A Book of Suggestive Programs for the Days We Celebrate in the Public Schools in Oklahoma We have not outlined so many holiday programs for the fiscal year of 1912-13 as we did for 1911-12 but we hope that the schools will be all the more enthusiastic in making the most of the days we have chosen to cele brate. We have thought best to combine the holidays in such a manner as to present only three programs each year. You will note that our second program in this bulletin combines Statehood Day and Thanksgiving Day on the twenty-eighth of November, Columbus and Arbor Day programs coming in October and March. In 1913-14 we celebrate Christmas, combine Washington, Lincoln and Lee programs on Washington's birthday and observe Arbor Day for a third program. I am going to tell you about them in their historical order, beginning with the first of our holidays, Passover, which tells of the dawn of free dom for Israel, just as the Fourth of July is the birthday of liberty for the Ameri can people. We will follow our Jewish ancestors through the wilderness as they journey to the Promised Land; we will celebrate with them the high festivals in the golden days when our own kings ruled in Jerusalem, until at last we reach the time when Rabbi Akiba, after the destruction of the second Temple, taught the Torah to his devoted pupils.
