A Survey of Czechoslovak Agriculture
A Survey of Czechoslovakia's Agriculture
Author: Robert Cummings
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Agriculture
Languages : en
Pages : 28
Book Description
Extract: Czechoslovakia is one of the most industrialized countries in Eastern Europe, and agriculture plays a minor role in the economy, contributing only 10.5 percent of national income in 1980. Of the arable land, 94 percent is held in socialized ownership, but private production supplies a large share of meat, livestock products, fruits, and vegetables. Czechoslovakia is a net agricultural importer and the emphasis of current agricultural policy is on attaining self-sufficiency in grain production to reduce costly imports. Furthermore, under the seventh Five Year Plan (1981-85), crop production will grow faster than livestock production and cattle and sheep raising will be stressed rather than pig and poultry raising.
