Book Description
Excerpt from The Craft Sinister I agree with the reader that it seems nonsensical to add an "Introduction" to a book, which already has a "Preface." But in this case something had to be added, and if I have taken recourse to the word "Introduction" it is for no other reason than that this word seemed as good as any other. This manuscript has been making the rounds of publishing houses for a year now. The "Preface" was pre-dated to May 1, 1919. In reality the book was completed two months before that, and represented then the labor of about eight months, not counting three years of work in Central Europe and another year in the United States- time devoted to the study of the subject and the experience that had to be gained. The publishers who had the manuscript were afraid to publish it. One of them had indeed accepted the book and went so far as to place it among his "Announcements" to the book trade. But something went wrong. Another publisher was torn by his emotions" for the space of weeks and finally admitted that it would be "too dangerous for his firm" to publish the book. The man feared the High and Mighty in Washington, and well he might. He was of the opinion that there was involved a public duty, and that he should meet it. "But," he said, "if I get into trouble the public won't thank me." For the man in question I will say that I fully sympathize with him. A few might feel different about it, in case the Most Honorable Burleson denied the mails of the United States to him, but the dear public, that great mass of people which is swayed only by the passions of the day, would, in its fervor to please the Powerful, do little better than boycott his books besides. But it seems wholly useless to go into further details of this sort. Publishing is a business, not a mission, and wise indeed the publisher who keeps this in mind. For not to keep it in mind means that he will not be a publisher for long. I have, then, no quarrel with any publisher. In fact, I sympathize with all of them. The Queen of Sinister

The Queen of Sinister PDF Author: Mark Chadbourn
Publisher: Pyr
ISBN: 1616143487
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 530

Book Description
A new Dark Age has fallen across Britain. With the sudden return of magic, our modern, technological society has crumbled. Cities lie in ruins, communications are limited. Gods and monsters walk the land. In this new time, myth and legend has become reality; nothing is quite as it seems. The plague came without warning. Nothing could stop its progress: not medicines, not prayer. The first sign of the disease is black spots at the base of the fingers; an agonizing death quickly follows. But this is no ordinary disease... Caitlin Shepherd, a lowly GP, is allowed to cross the veil into the mystical Celtic Otherworld in search of a cure; her search takes her on a quest to the end of a land of dreams and nightmares to petition the gods. Caitlin is humanity's last hope, but she carries a terrible burden: a consciousness shattered into five distinct personalities... and one of them may not be human. The Queen of Sinister is the latest installment in Mark Chadbourn’s brilliant new sequence: exciting, evocative, terrifying, and awe-inspiring.

Book Description
Two best friends. Seven years of pining. One explosive summer… Romance is weakness, and Jasmine Allen doesn’t have time for either. Lifelong cynic Jas is the queen of one-night things—until a plumbing disaster screws everything up and leaves her temporarily homeless. Luckily, she has someone to turn to: her best friend Rahul. For seven years, Rahul Khan has followed three simple rules. Don’t touch Jasmine if you can help it. Don’t look at her arse in that skirt. And don’t ever—ever—tell her you love her. He should’ve added another rule: Do not, under any circumstances, let Jas move into your house. Now Rahul is living with the friend he can’t have, and it’s decimating his control. He knows their shared dinners aren’t dates, their late-night kisses are a mistake, and the tenderness in Jasmine’s gaze is only temporary. One wrong word could send his skittish best friend running. So why is he tempted to risk it all?

Queer Horror

Queer Horror PDF Author: Sean Abley
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 1476690278
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 494

Book Description
From the beginning, horror has been part of the cinema landscape. Despite some of the earliest genre films with gay directors such as F.W. Murnau (Nosferatu) and James Whale (Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein), LGBTQIA characters have rarely been portrayed in full view. For decades, filmmakers have included "coded" content in their films with the homosexual experience translated into censor-friendly subtext for consumption by general audiences. Gradually, LGBTQIA characters and themes have moved from the background to the foreground as the horror genre has grown along with its audience's tastes and attitudes. Likewise, more and more LGBTQIA writers and directors have begun to offer their queer-centric takes on scary movies and today, "queer horror" is a thriving film genre. With more than 900 entries, this critical filmography is a comprehensive, critical, yet playful examination of the history of LGBTQIA content in horror films. Eight journalistic contributors dig into every era of scary movies, including the early silents, pre- and post-Hays Code content, grindhouse sleaze, LGBTQIA indies, and megaplex studio releases. From Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) to Don Mancini's Chucky films and everything in between, this collection explores what can be found at the intersection of "LGBTQIA" and "horror" in the film industry.

Witcha

Witcha PDF Author: Nathaniel Harris
Publisher: Mandrake
ISBN: 9781869928773
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 316

Book Description
Of course it is not possible to de-mystify Mysticism, and who would want to? Yet also there is no need for deliberate and gratuitous obscurantism. 'Witcha' presents many secrets of English Witchcraft in plain language, giving details of widdershins and deosil circle casting, spell-craft, divination, spiritism, sabbats and esbats, sacrifice, entheogens, philosophy, history, and more besides. The focus is primarily upon those aspects commonly called 'operative witchcraft', which is the witchcraft of 'results' and 'getting things done', rather than the supposedly more 'spiritual' aspects that have been the subject of so many books of late. These are illustrated with photographs taken by my step-father, Adrian Brynn-Evans, detailing -with their kind permission and support- exhibits from the Museum of Witchcraft, Boscastle. These give visual reference to the historical context of this path, proving that it is not something invented by New Age gurus.
