Book Description
Excerpt from The Canadian Congregational Year Book, 1910-11, Vol. 38 In the last analysis, and to go down to the very root of the Christian religion, to be a Christian is not to acquire a notion of God, or even an abstract doctrine of His parental love; it is to live over within ourselves the inner spiritual life of Christ, and by the union of our hearts with His to feel in ourselves the presence of a Father, and the reality of Our filial relation to Him, just as Christ felt in Himself the Father's presence and his filial relation to Him. If by this is meant a full understanding and reproduction of the inner spiritual experiences of Christ we must say with Paul, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended. But if living our life under the inspiration of Jesus and in the power He imparts be the meaning, the number is increasing of those who would add, Reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Book Description
Excerpt from American Congregational Year Book, for the Year 1856, Vol. 3 One department of the year-book which ought to be greatly enlarged has been in the present volume reluctantly but necessarily contracted, -the presentation of elevations of new churches, with a condensed history of their origin and present condition. To procure suitable engravings would add too much to the cost of the year-book, - but if individuals or churchee will supply such views and histories, it would greatly increase the useful ness of the year-book to churches about to erect houses of worship; and be a public benefit by improving our church architecture. Book Description
Excerpt from The Congregational Year-Book, 1882 IV. It would be a great convenience, and facilitate the issue of the year-book, if State Minutes would follow the order Of items in general use. The list of items for which figures are asked is given in this issue on page 78. Any number of blanks wanted to collect these statistics in any State, will be furnished on application to the Secretary of the National Council. V. Items should be added up. In one State, eight items of benevolence had to be added by the compiler for each of two hundred and three churches, to obtain the amount for each church. A table not worth a total is rarely worth printing. Summary tables should be found in every State issue, and made correctly.
