Samuel Ambrose Nichols, son of Robert Nichols and Sarah Robertson, was born 22 Feb 1787 near Annapolis, Maryland. He married Susannah Hardey, daughter of George Hardey and Priscilla Jenkins, on 24 Sep 1815. They had ten children. Susannah died on 16 July 1864 and Samuel died 3 Dec 1866. Their children and descendants have lived in Maryland, District of Columbia, South Carolina, Florida, and other areas in the United States.

Arranged in alphabetical order by member, most of these genealogies go back seven or eight generations. Many of the lineages are traced well beyond the qualifying Colonial Wars ancestor to that individual's predecessor in the colonies and the mother country-sometimes ten or eleven generations in all. As many as 30,000 persons descending from, or ascending to, the qualifying ancestors are to be found within these pages. Most entries contain name, date of birth and date of death. Some entries also include date of marriage; a few entries consist of name only.
